It’s always amazing how many on the OT are victims of crime.

I work in New Orleans East, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world and I’ve never been a victim of a robbery. Yet we have an OTer that has had to play vigilante twice on a random mountain in Alabama. What are the odds.

Have you ever been in an ACT, LSAT, MCAT, annual salary, dick size, thread?

This board is filled with the best, brightest, big dicked bastards in the world!

We are in the Jasper are 4 to 5 times a year for a week at a time. We've learned many BFE areas and are without cell reception most of the time

The Buffalo River is one of my favorite places to visit.

We tend to visit during the week on the Fall when there isn’t much activity on the trails. I’ve never had an encounter, but it’s always in the back of my mind.

I’m amazed by the amount of younger women hiking/trail running alone while up there. I wouldn’t want my daughter doing that unless she was packing and had firearm training.

Criminals don't like to poop where they eat and they like to catch people somewhere their guard isn't up and they feel safe.

The crime committed in the OP matches that. A family of four hiking through the woods in a state park during the day wouldn't expect to be attacked for no apparent reason.

A sad world we live in. Trails are supposed to be safe.

I stumbled on this one when I was looking up an old college roommate. This was his sister:

Nashville Trail Murder

This is crazy.

The wife deserves a medal and a movie. Courage beyond imagination.

Now, if her scorned lover committed the murder the movie will definitely get made.

But how strong of connections did she have back home?

Are these this man’s kids?

Lots of questions.

Fingerless gloves, on a trail in July, during a heatwave...odd, yes, unless you're from Jersey

I knew a dude who would put these on before he fingerbanged his girlfriend. In late middle school.

Believe it or not , it’s not my problem. I have no reason to lie.

I don’t know how old you are, but if you actually live long enough you will be a victim of crime at some point in your life. Even if it’s your car being broken into.

why is how and why people decide to defend themselves "ludicrous" to you? even though this is one of your shorter posts, AwgustaDog, it still took time and effort. why do you care? tell us.

The odds of being murdered by someone you do not know in the United States is very low. Carry as many guns as makes you comfortable but it ain't necessary to protect yourself unless you are a criminal or an a-hole because the odds of being a victim of a violent crime in the US is very low.

TIL reducing your chance of violent death by exercising your constitutional and God given right is ludicrous.

I learn amazing things in this place.

The odds with 30 guns on your person or none are not significantly different...either way it is extremely rare for someone to be violently killed in the US, armed or not. Carry all you want to, its a right and more power to anyone who chooses to do so but pretending like its necessary in any meaningful fashion to survive the mean streets of America is ludicrous...

I’m a big supporter of the 2nd amendment. I thought you ought to be able to carry a belt fed machine gun to the gas station if that’s what makes you feel better. But the vast vast vast vast majority of people are never going to get into a situation where they need a gun. And the vast majority of the people who do need a gun wouldn’t have the first idea what to do with it when they needed. That includes all the “baws” out there that think they’re badasses because they hunt from a deer stand to shoot animals at a corn feeder 50 yards away.
