Quick research from CDC indicates 23,000 or so murders of all kinds in the US in 2022. The CDC also estimates that 90% of those murders were committed by someone the victim knew so around 2300 people were murdered in the US by strangers. That is a .0007% chance that a random person would be killed in the US in 2022 by a stranger. That is somewhere in the neighborhood of 25% more likely to happen than winning the Powerball lottery....carry as many guns as you can tote, no one cares, but pretending its needed to prevent being violently murdered by a stranger is simply irrational....the math is not on your side. If it gets in your feels by all means carry 1, 10, 20, however many gets you through your day...but going about admitting you are so scared of such a miniscule risk is, as I said earlier, ludicrous.

more AwgustaDog nonsense. Pretending to be “neutral” by talking about odds, but let's the truth slip with that latest punchline of “only criminals or assholes need protection,” which is just a dressed-up way of saying “guns are bad.” Classic soft-sell: drown you in statistics so you overlook the premise that unarmed citizens are fair game.

By that logic, who needs a fire extinguisher or fire alarm—unless you're a arsonist. fricking stupid.

And I am certain someone will claim its also necessary to carry because violent crime is not just murder....and the last part is indeed true. The odds of being a victim of violent crime in the US is around .4%. Considering that most victims of violent crimes are criminals themselves, live in crime ridden neighborhoods and are victims of multiple violent crimes in a year of data the odds of a random indvidual not involved in criminal activity is virtually non-existent....but irrational fears are hard to control so tote as many guns as you can....it is, after all, a constitutional right which should be practiced by anyone thus bent....that in and of itself is reason enough to carry a gun, justifying it because of crime is silly. Its our right as a citizen, that's all that needs to be said...that's more than enough reason to carry.

Yes!

Its a right guaranteed to all citizens...that is reason enough to do it, pretending like its necessary to survive a hike in a state park with your kids is just irrational....its a right, thats all that is needed.

I work in New Orleans East, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world and I’ve never been a victim of a robbery. Yet we have an OTer that has had to play vigilante twice on a random mountain in Alabama. What are the odds.

I've hiked in Ruffner Mountain hundreds of times, and I've never had anything like that happen to me. But I would be lying if I said that I never thought about the possibility of it with it butting up against Gate City, and East Lake.

Its amazing how many soy boys are terrified of guns.

This baw could teach you a lesson.

Its truly amazing how many gun owners suffer from irrational fears associated with other humans. The fact that we have a right to carry a gun is all the justification needed for anyone who wishes to do so...pretending that its necessary to survive church or a trip to Outback Steakhouse is just silly posturing. Or insanity, if one truly thinks their life is constantly in danger unless they are armed.

This is part of the reason I work out. I would imagine someone walking around that looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger is even less likely to be a victim of a crime than your typical overweight baw.

Look I’m very pro carry, but just because you have a gun on you AND are well trained, doesn’t mean you can prevent everything.

Someone comes up to you and immediately draws a gun, you gonna play Doc Holiday and quick draw him? I’m not.

Even someone with a knife can be on you and stabbing you quickly before you realize what’s up.

Dont have them.

"Be prepared" is more than a motto chief.

I carry a 10mm on the trail because of bears. Are you saying its irrational to live in bear country and carry a firearm?

It’s quaint to act like carrying a gun is “posturing” instead of a simple acknowledgment that humans are capable of spectacularly awful things

I guess it all depends on what side of the statistics you want to be on. Do you want to be on your side of the .4% where your kids become orphans and your family has to bury you and try to get your kids to not go off the deep end?

Or do you want to be on the .4% that gets to go home to your family?

Tough choice, really.

Is the reporter having a stroke? She is stumbling across her words throughout the entire report.

She’s cute though.
