OT Watch Bros: thoughts on Seiko?

Not an OT baller so can’t pull the trigger on a Rolex or Omega at the moment, even though I would like one someday.
Been trying to grow my collection though. I have a Citizen Eco-Drive, but want to add another couple watches.
Been looking at the Seiko Alpinist (green dial) and the Seiko 5 GMT Divers. Also really like their Presage watches.
Are these respectable in the community or are there much better options in this price range?

Seiko uses their own in-house movement which is a plus. Known to be fairly easy to service.
There's almost a cult following of Seiko enthusiasts out there who modify and customize them.
All in all it's a good entry level watch and respectable for what it is at that price point.

Seiko makes very, very solid entry level mechanical wristwatches. Highly recommend if that’s the price point you’re interested in.

Been thinking of spending 1.5-2k on two or three watches to grow the collection and have some fun.
Seiko’s are cool and the Alpinist really caught my eye.
I would guess the 1k or less price range per watch is the zone I’m in.
Been looking at the Hamilton’s as well. They look nice.

For similar money you can get a Steinhart.
It's an "homage" design (obviously influenced by a Rolex Sub) but does have a Swiss movement.
I'm not sure what tariffs have done to the pricing and shipping from Germany but when I bought mine it was no big deal.
But the Seiko's are nice also.

I was gifted one but don’t wear it often.
Funny story….. I didn’t know it worked off movement. I put mine up for a couple weeks and when I went to use it, I thought it was broken and stopped working. After walking around with it, it started working again. That’s when I realized I had to shake it before wearing it

Pool your money and get a Seiko/Grand Seiko older model in good shape. You’ll love the finishing and accuracy more and if you ever decide to part ways with it you won’t lose as much on resale.

Seiko good. Nothing else to say other than they used to be a better value.
The options include a bazillion micro-brands, which often have Seiko NH series movements in them.

Seiko is a good watch. It’s also the “Reddit” watch for people who really want a Rolex

I’ve worn Seiko watches for most of my adult life. Incredibly reliable and solid watches. Only complaint is I had a tendency to break the pins in the stainless steel bands. Totally
My fault as I was usually doing some sort of physical activity and forgot I had my watch on.
They really are worth the money.

You cannot go wrong with a Seiko.
I have about 20 mods if you want to buy some. Very good price for you my friend.

Have both Rolex and Seikos (including the Alpinist) and I really enjoy my Seikos. As mentioned in the thread, you can work your way up from Seiko, to King Seiko to Grand Seiko (which are terrific). Shop around though, you should be able to get at least 30% off.

The first gift my wife got me when we started dating was a Seiko Jimmy Johnson watch. Never took it off… Absolutely loved it
