Goalposts have shifted again.

If the United States had begun imposing social distancing measures one week earlier than it did in March, about 36,000 fewer people would have died in the coronavirus outbreak, according to new estimates from Columbia University disease modelers.
And if the country had begun locking down cities and limiting social contact on March 1, two weeks earlier than most people started staying home, the vast majority of the nation’s deaths — about 83 percent — would have been avoided, the researchers estimated.
Under that scenario, about 54,000 fewer people would have died by early May.

Avoided or delayed till the reopening?

I can’t wait for a 6 month lockdown the next time the first person dies of a novel virus in the Far East.

First, article is on the liberal biased rag that is the N.Y. Times.
Second, "the vast majority" of deaths were people over 80 (many in nursing homes) who would have died soon anyway.
"The vast majority" (if not all) of the liberal news media hyperbole has been for political gain hoping against hope that a crashed economy will be enough to get President Trump voted out of office.
But yea, inner cities that have been poorly managed by Democrats for decades should keep voting for Democrats.

And don't travel by plane, and don't travel at all
Build a bomb shelter basement with titanium walls
And wear titanium suits in case pianos fall on you
And never go to saunas 'cause they're crawlin' with piranhas
And never take the stairs 'cause they're often unsafe
You only live once, don't let it go to waste

Democrats good. Democrats love. Democrats life.

if we had locked down our country in December, we could have spared ALL the lives..ish
these studies are the worst b/c they're completely based i hindsight bias in this putative alternative reality that HAS NO END POINT

And if I would have chosen last night’s winning powerball numbers on Monday I’d be a multi millionaire today.

If anyone ever suggests the government step in and shut the country down again for the next world ending pandemic I hope someone punches them in the face.
They shouldn’t even have the authority to do what they did this go round. Way too much power and it definitely revealed who the tyrants are among the political elite.

All of them.

If we didn’t force nursing homes to take in Covid patients, many thousands also wouldn’t have died.

That won’t happen if a Dem is in office. The media and politicians will ignore it.

I’m to the point that I feel that these projection numbers (number of cases projected, number of deaths projected, number of people who could’ve been saved if we had done this or that) are just numbers pulled from nowhere. They’re just whatever number fits the narrative.

that's like saying if the Japanese wouldn't have bombed Pearl
Harbor millions would not have died...

Trump crashed it though.
