re: Was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki necessary? - Ross
This thread had a lot of emotional responses, but enough scrutiny had been passed over the OP to at the very least make it apparent that claims such as “the Japanese were ready to surrender” have doubt cast upon them. I don’t know if I’d expect any new insights to be shared. Probably just a recir...
Further, it's clear involving the Russians sooner would have been enough to end the war without the use of the bombs.
What I don’t think is clear at all is if the war would have ended without additional loss of American life. In fact I think such a stance seems unrealistic. I...

re: Was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki necessary? - Ross
Call it whatever you will, I’m just giving as friendly advice as possible for the furtherment of an actual discourse. FWIW I find the idea that not a single American life was saved from the usage of atomic weapons to be unrealistic. You clearly disagree....
No, I’m saying we could have gotten essentially the same terms before and after the bombs
I believe neither this nor the idea that not a single American life was spared from the usage of atomic bombs. Those bombs ended the war sooner and saved American lives. Whether or not the ...

re: How far do you think we are from a major worker’s revolution in America? - Ross
The people (i.e. the market) should correct to the reality that college is costing significantly more money and time than it is worth for a large number of people in various studies. Trade school needs to make a comeback. There is money and opportunity to be made in jobs that today's teenagers an...
