Every power outage I always think back to that old utilities commercial from when I was a kid. The dad, mom and kids are around the table in the dark with candles and the dad says let’s just pretend we’re pioneers. My alternate ending is they all get up and beat the shite out of the dad.

While I’m not your ancestor, I grew up in my grandparents’ antebellum home void of central air. There were window units in the bedrooms, but my grandfather wouldn’t allow them to run at night bc he couldn’t hear if someone were breaking in. There was zero chance of that happening bc we lived miles from nowhere - but nope, no AC. I built up a tolerance l/

My SO insists the AC be kept in the 60’s at night; I sleep with an extra blanket.

You should probably move. You don't know how to live in Louisiana.

Well I grew up in an old house built in the 40's, no insulation, colder than a well diggers arse in winter and hot as frick in the summer. At least we had a large window belt driven fan (no guards around fan) that kept us somewhat cool at night during the summer.

There is a statue of Carrier in the rotunda of the US capital for this very reason, at least that’s what we were told during a visit about 10 years ago.

I’m 54 and my dad passed a couple years ago. They had no electricity until he was 18 at their house. I asked him” Daddy , how in the hell did y’all make out without any AC especially trying to sleep at night” his reply “ you don’t miss anything that you never had”

Battery operated fans would have done the trick, we stocked up on those after Irma.

I have slept in my truck for a few nights.

There is no way I’m sweating while trying to sleep

You wouldn't win Survivor. 83 isn't even that terrible. I'm sure the humidity is tho. I'd still open a window with a screen

83 is nothing. Fat people can’t hack it above 73 though.

We had generator running 3 fans Tuesday night in Hammond and it was 88 degrees in the house at 8pm.

Got up yesterday morning and brought my wife and kids to Georgia to be with family. This a/c and the hot shower I took last night tells me I did the right thing.

yankees lose electric for a few hours and they complain.

You guys had better ball up and get ready.
There will be a day where we are no longer allowed to have A/C.
Election fraud+indifference= Biden types getting elected.
Now add to that voting makes no difference. This means more Biden types and thus stupid laws that will result in things being done to us that include making A/C being unobtainable due to fees and regulation.

I’ll bet you stunk when you woke up. I know I would. Hell I’m nasty when I get night sweats from drinking too much.

We had 12 days without power for Gustav. At one point I think we covered ourselves in Noxema.
