So now my windshield is my business?
How does this affect NOLA? Our brake tags are different than the rest of the state.

Nola, Kenner, and Westwego will retain authority over their stickers/brake tags.
Kenner has indicated they will follow state’s direction, Westwego will put it to their council, and Nola has been tightlipped and is waiting to comment until final verbiage in bill is set.

Let me translate this:
"NOLA will hold off to see how they can make max dollars with minimal effort and do that."
Once again proving that inspection stickers are a hidden tax and not a safety measure.

just to make sure we're keeping score... after use our hard earned and already taxed to hell money to purchase a vehicle we have to:
Pay taxes on the purchase to the government
Pay the government to obtain a license to be able to operate said vehicle
Pay the government again to register the vehicle
Pay the government AGAIN to deem that vehicle safe to operate
frick them

They are going to wind up saying that you need an inspection sticker until you renew your registration and get the new sticker. I just bought a new car so my registration is good until May ‘28. And I just got a two year inspection sticker on Wednesday.

Scan for what? I still don’t get what the QR code is for.
For now, QR code just verifies the sticker with the VIN on the vehicle. No more laser printer inspection stickers.
QR sticker + VIN + license plate all have to match.
I'd guess the license plate cameras will be upgraded to read the QR code at high speed.
Camera reads QR, then license plate. If they don't match, you'll get a letter/ticket in the mail.
You get the sticker when you renew your vehicle registration.
In order to renew registration, you need proof of insurance.
In a few years, it's going to be very easy to spot which cars don't have insurance since they can't get the renewal and sticker.

You left out the 40 cents per gallon of gas tax

I put "can high speed cameras read QR code inspection stickers" into AI, and this was the result:
Yes, high-speed, specialized cameras—such as automated license plate readers (ALPR) or "flock cameras"—are capable of scanning and reading specialized QR code inspection stickers.
Louisiana is actively moving toward this technology to replace traditional physical inspections, with the new system taking effect on Jan. 1, 2027.
How the System Works
Replacement Technology: The traditional, manually inspected brake tags are being replaced by a QR code sticker that includes the vehicle’s identification number (VIN) and registration information.
Automatic Scanning: Law enforcement can use automated cameras to scan these stickers while driving or while the car is parked, allowing them to instantly access vehicle information and verify compliance.

Yeah I have no expectation that Orleans will eliminate brake tags. It’s a money grab pure and simple.

All these little shitass local governments get to "decide" if they'll follow state law.
No wonder we have sanctuary cities.

There’s a place in Plaquemine that this is all that they do and they have people lined up all day long. I guess they will still have business inspecting commercial vehicles but it seems like it will definitely affect their business and the business of people like them.

See, even AI knows they're called Brake Tags

Throw it in the trash just like you can with the unconstitutional red light camera tickets.

Good. They serve no public service. The whole thing is a government jobs program scam.

Have they explained how this is going to effect us poor SOBs in East Baton Rouge Parish since we still need an emissions test? Are we still doing the full inspection for the time being?

So basically it’s not an “inspection tag” anymore. It’s now a yearly “registration tag” that they can read with cameras better and easier than the one on your license plate in the bottom right corner.
If Orleans keeps it, it will still be a “brake tag”.
In BR and other Parishes with the EPA mandate, you will have a “registration tag” and an “emissions tag”.
Isn’t it wonderful how unique Louisiana is?

Would be a lot less trouble to just put a QR code on the license plate.

Great idea! But it has to go up $10 whatever is done.

So in BR, what is the penalty for not having the "emissions tag".
If you get caught up in one of these "safety checkpoints" and have the QR code like you're supposed to, but no emissions sticker there is a separate ticket for that?
