HOA started threatening fines after my neighbor put a portable (unattached). Basketball goal on his driveway for his 7 year old son’s Xmas gift.

Like my buddy's mom's house. The next door neighbor in a cul-de-sac street with no strict deed restrictions decided to turn his home into a shade tree mechanic shop. Storing old junkards in the yard, in the street of a cul-de-sac in front of other people's houses. Nothing to worry about there. tell me how they shouldn't worry. Tell me how you prefer oil stained streets and dead grass over something a little nicer.
Or yet, tell me how someone is not suppose to worry about a neighbor's dead palm leaning over a neighbor's house which she refuses to take down because she can't afford it but drives a X5?
Some of you so against HOA's must not really be familiar with them or take a little notice letter too personally.

If that was my direct neighbor wouldn't give a shite about the pink house until it came time to sell mine, then I would be livid when it cost me money because the majority of potential buyers aren't living next to that unless they get a sweet deal on the house I am trying to sell
Would you have any chance at winning a lawsuit vs the pink home owner if your house sold for a significant amount less per sf than comps in the same area/time frame?

Depends on the location, if it is a subdivision with 100s of similar houses probably would seek out another house. But in most cities and towns there are locations that are very desirable and available properties few and far between, in that case this pink house being next door would not bother me at all. Oddly enough these areas are usually older with no HOAs.

I have family in a newer neighborhood off Bluebonnet in Baton Rouge. Literally every single house looks exactly the same. All Beige too.

Covenants, codes, and restrictions are available to every homeowner PRIOR to buying in a HOA. There's lots of stupid in this thread. I like my HOA. I like my neighbors. The people who live here moved here specifically because they didn't want human trash living next door.

The difference would be that I've never seen anyone argue for HOAs with a pink house to support it and I always see people complaining about supposed overbearing HOAs. Now I have heard arguments for HOAs because people let their homes fall into disrepair.
