Might see if I can find some excess free champagne from last night and go see if any peasants on the other side of the boulevard need help this morning.

Why do people continue to trust NOLA or JP government to keep their property dry?

The other side of the Boulevard. One can only imagine the riff raff. Do take care on your travels. Have your driver mind the doors and keep a weapon locked and loaded.

I don't disagree, but Southern Louisiana is also one of the largest flood plains in the world.

And 85% of the city is below sea level

High and dry along the river on the westbank of St. Charles parish. Lots of rain and highest I’ve seen the water in the swale on the side of my property at 6 am but it’s all gone now.

So glad we left New Orleans. Our cars are dry and our pumps are working. What a show.

I’ve accepted that a 100 year old system is going to be rough around the edges.... and probably far too expensive to truly fix.... but that the backup generator has an hour turnaround time to get up and running during emergency seems... bad. Anyone more familiar know if this is an issue of once restarting it just takes a long time or if the SWB is just woefully unprepared to deal with any adversity and have to send someone out on call after failure to start up the generator?

I imagine it goes like this:

Some guy sleeping with his feet up on the desk hears an alarm. He says “Man, ain’t this some bullshite”.

He call another guy and wakes him up at his house. That guy calls another guy who pages a guy who is supposed to be responsible for the generators. That guy gets dressed and drives into the city from the West Bank.

He gets to the station and flips a switch right next to the guy that originally heard the alarm. The generator kicks on.
