Another band looks to be forming. I think NOLA gets hit in about 30 - 60 min.

Where are y’all flooding at?

Old Metairie will hold water for a little while and then they kick the pumps on. I haven’t heard of any other areas holding water still but I’m just waking up.

So we are supposed to have Mother’s Day at our house today at 11:30.

Street is completely flooded up to the sidewalk.

Wonderful.

Why is NOLA so fricking terrible with their pumps?

Instead of having a central command for everything where they can see a storm coming and turn on the pumps to draw down in anticipation of more volume, they instead have people on call that have to drive to the pump locations to turn them on. They're only called when the water hits a certain level. Proactive vs. reactive. It's mind-blowingly stupid. Every single outside observer of the system has commented on this. That goes for Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard parishes. Jefferson and St. Bernard have a slightly better system because all the canals are connected, but they still rely on manual switches.

ETA: Jefferson had been in the very early stages of working on a smarter system before I left in 2014. Not sure if they ever got a system online or what.

Hearing a lot of people's cars flooded in Nola. Water was standing for a few hours but suddenly drained within minutes. The dumb fricks at the S&WB obviously didn't turn the pumps on.

Where was water standing for hours? The pumps kept up with the storms from 11pm to 3am.

Rich part of Uptown; checking in dry. Why anyone would live on the lake side of St Charles baffles me.

Is this because of the style/age of the pumps or is it possible to retrofit them and they just haven't?

That sucks, but it freaking poured for what seemed like all night. It woke me a few times with the thunder and heavy rainfall. It was loud.

I bet the system would work better if they had computers.

Borderline rich area. They should have bought on the right side of the park.

Seems like flooding in streets is a common occurrence in New Orleans. Insurance continuing to sky rocket?
