I think it’s funny that the same people who bang the “move somewhere cheaper (ie not a city)” people are more often than not vehemently opposed to wfh and practically pee on themselves with joy whenever some ceo or company reduces/ends their wfh set up.
I wfh but a lot of folks shouldn't be

Yep. But it shouldn’t be a surprise when they have no financial competency and are propped up by student loans, revolving credit, and parents who won’t cut the cord.
Generations that can't accept that they have to live within their means and that the real world will tell them "no" at times.

You're not wrong on a macro level, but housing, health care, and college costs have skyrocketed.
More government isn't the answer, but CPAs, engineers, and other upper middle class careers having issues buying in city limits is not a great indicator.

We can't afford rent but we also think we should let 10 million people a year into the country

You really belive that don't you? Less than 25% of American have a college education. Yet it is some kind of anchor on the trades?
You are being extremely dishonest with this data by including generations of older Americans who had zero access to higher education. The reality is, that over 60% of current high school graduates immediately enter college, but only about a third of all jobs require a degree.

Yeah, if you have kids you’re easily shelling out 600-800k for a decent place within an ideal city neighborhood. And likely more if you’re near good schools (basically only west Houston) and limited parts of the inner loop. There are still some nice townhomes and condos for less than $500k but not many. And you’d probably only do those single or without kids.

I haven't read the article and obviously there's a limit to this, but I do wonder how many of these people are willing to drive Uber/Lyft, work evening shifts at restaurants/bars, work at a grocery store on the weekend, etc..
When you're in financial, sometimes the best thing to do is just suck it up and find something else to make money.

Haha I've narrowed it down to what I call Dowtown 1, 2, etc. in the Houston area. Several areas could be downtowns in cities on their own haha.

Who would’ve thought that people unwilling to work and/or unqualified for any high paying jobs, in this Bidenomics inflationary economy, wouldn’t be able to afford rent in some of the most expensive places in America. Stop the presses, this must be the republicans fault.
