Turbo 4 cylinders aren’t making a good name for themselves right now, though. So far I haven’t heard a lot of negative about the GM turbo 4’s. But they’re still relatively new. Toyota? It’s not good so far.
Are there issues with the 4 cylinder?
The 6 cylinder had a manufacturing frick up but I’m not aware of the 4.
I have a ‘22 Tundra. Not sure when but I’ll be getting a new engine at some point.
I’d rather have a v8 but I wasn’t going to buy a GM or a Ford.
GM - lots of issues.
Ford - spent 4 times what they expected on warranty issues with their truck in the second quarter of this year and haven’t fixed their issues. Also recalled their 2.7liter turbo engines for a replacement.
Ram - just no.

We have a 2025 Tundra...The V6 has plenty of power.

I was thinking about getting a Tundra has a 2006 put 250k miles on it.
However, after doing a lot of research, and Toyota recalling 100k engines, I will wait until they can build one that does not require a full engine replacement.
I saw a lot of people having the same issues with the Hybird engine also!
Toyota used to be reliable, not so sure anymore.
If you search a little I think you can take your tundra to mechanic or toyota to look for something that shows if you have metal in the engine.

Had a ‘21 Land Cruiser with the V8.
Now have two vehicles with the TTV6. It is way more fun to drive. We’ll see on durability but both covered to 100k. I only lost 5k on the Land Cruiser trade-in in 2024, couldn’t pass that up. Yes I miss my Land Cruiser, but wouldn’t do anything different.

I will only buy a V8 which is why I am going with the 5.0 or the Titan 5.6.

That was a machining issue where material wasn’t getting flushed completely when the engines were bored. Technically it was the fault of the supplier but Toyota is giving all affected VINs a brand new engine regardless of if you suffer any problems or not. It isn’t an issue with the design.

Agreed. I was looking for a truck the first half of last year, had thought about a V8 Tundra based on my good experience with other Toyotas, and a friend that had an older V8 Tundra. Found out the 2024 Tundras had V6s and read up on the newer engines, they have plenty of towing/pulling power.
So, I bought a 2024 Tundra with a six cylinder. It has been an excellent purchase, had it about 6 months and no issues with power.

Let me get this straight.
You’re so aggressively “muh V8” that you’re either going to buy a discontinued truck that had literally 0.02% of the market or an F150 with the terrible 10-speed transmission that Ford has never gotten right?
Just buy the lowest-mileage 2021 Tundra you can find with the 5.7 and be done. You won’t need a truck for 20 years.

Go visit your dealer’s service area and ask them what’s in that stack of crates.

Debatable. The truck is heavy and if put under stress, the durability of this particular motor likely will not endure the test of time. The 5.7 was/is bulletproof.
Why didn’t they introduce a diesel like the rest of the planet gets?

Toyota needs to go back to the Straight 6 for Land Cruisers. Make the old school 4.7 again, and make it an upgrade for the Lexus Version.
As a side-note...I get that it kind of sucks that the Tundra doesn't offer a V8 anymore...but remember that the T-100 that they were based off of, didn't offer a V8 either.
What really stinks is that the engines Toyota has jumped to aren't showing the reliability that has built their reputation into what it is today.

I have a 2023 after owning a 2016 V8 and the power drop off is really not noticeable, but the only load I’m ever really pulling is my 16’ boat, or if I load the bed.
Not sure what kind of load you’re trying to pull or haul, but with no load, you won’t really notice a difference in get up or acceleration. And the v6 turbo gets you slightly better gas mileage.
Maintenance/repair, and how the turbo holds up over time is yet to be determined, and my only concern after buying it.

Switching to a 3.0L inline turbo V6. The specs are impressive but who knows if it will be reliable. I think the 5.7 is gone in the 2025s for the 1500s at least.
You know with this 1st Gen 3.0 inline turbo V6 there will be bugs that will have to be worked out. Remember the old rule of thumb, never buy the first or last production years of anything.

This is my biggest problem with all these full sized trucks going to turbocharged V6 engines. Having the turbo go out isn’t like having a starter or alternator go out where you can just replace it. When that turbo fails and start shredding the compressor wheel, your engine is fricked.

At least Toyota is fixing their issue. Ask Ford and Chevy and Dodge owners about theirs.
