re: I know it’s cliche, but our best athletes would dominate Soccer.

I read through 3 pages of this brain-damaging thread and I still have yet to see anything resembling a convincing argument that the US wouldn’t be a global soccer powerhouse if we had trained our best athletes from toddler age on soccer.
RemolaudeSawce is a global deflection powerhouse though. Dude evades the point like a Dragon Ball Z character in a fight

This thread is amazing.
I envy TigrrrDad’s ability to be so convincingly and confidently completely wrong about the whole thing.

Why would the US’s population being 114x the size of Bosnia’s do anything to motivate the players? :wtf:

Players go to the ground to draw a foul to gain an advantage for their team. A player with the ball getting kicked at or tripped or shoved and just running through it would serve no purpose for him or his team, but it WOULD satisfy the average American meathead sports fan’s desire for macho toughness, so that’s clearly what they should be doing.
Have you ever been kicked in the ankle really hard while sprinting, or had your foot stepped on by a grown man wearing cleats, also while sprinting? It fricking sucks. You’d roll around on the ground too.

I was at the Walmart in Elmwood last night and I encountered a family of 5 Eastern Europeans of some description: mom, dad, high school age daughter and 2 adult sons. Best guess is Slovak or Hungarian based only on the snippets of conversation I caught.
They were ambling around the place like it was a museum, walking slowly and taking everything in, fairly mystified by most of what they saw. I saw the two adult sons get visibly bemused by a mid-aisle Powerade display, the whole family seemed generally astonished by the variety available in the snack aisle, and when I last saw them, they were up by the self-checkout all gathered around some sort of promotional spherical Coca-Cola bottle, passing one around like was a rare artifact.
I’ll put it this way: if they hadn’t been very obviously European tourists, anyone acting the way that they were acting would have made me assume that they were on some VERY powerful psychedelic drugs. They were broadly acting just the same.
They seemed very nice and I’m glad they had a good time.

If that "basic" maintenance hasn't included a timing belt/water pump/cam seal replacement job twice, you can expect that last sentence to change.
The 4.6 does not have a timing belt as it is based on the 5.7, which also does not have a timing belt.
Maybe you’ll get me next time.

Did it just completely go around BR? I woke up at 1 am expecting a downpour and...nothing. Figured it would come after I went back to bed
The original big front/cell went straight over NO and missed BR completely and another big cell bloomed up about 2 hours ago and has basically parked itself over Avoyelles.
The bottom of that second one is probably getting BR wet judging by the radar, but overall BR didn't get any of the nastiness.

My cousin works in emergency management for Ochsner. He just texted me and said they've currently got multiple 7-ton trucks running nonstop ferrying employees from a parking lot on Loyola Drive through water to the big Ochsner in Kenner.

Any water? About to leave lakeshore and head to the foot of canal.
Not really. I work on Canal between Carrolton and the cemetery and there's no meaningful water anywhere that I've seen. Business as usual here
Metairie Road blocked at the cemetery bc of a tree that fell from the golf course side.
I heard something about a small tornado, didn't say where, but it had to be somewhere around there. The closer I got to the interstate the worse the wind damage got.
Tree split in half right next to Old Metairie Discount, tree completely uprooted in the neutral ground just past the canal 200 yards after that and then the tree blocking the road 100 yards after that.
When we circled around to the interstate there was all kinds of tree damage in the cemetery and 2 power poles leaning like MJ on the east side of the interstate.

My dad has a 2012 Tundra 4.6 with ~220,000 miles that has literally never needed anything other than regular basic maintenance, i.e. tires, brakes, suspension and batteries. No leaks, no check engine lights, no unexpected problems, ever.
I fear that no one will ever be able to make that same statement honestly about one of the new Tundras.

I have a 2024 LT with the 3.0 Duramax. 24k miles and absolutely love it, no issues at all other than a bit of oil consumption but not to a worrying degree.
Truck gets ~30 mpg consistently at 73 mph on flat ground. Can’t beat that with a stick. Most long trips I average 26.5-29.
I would recommend getting the multi flex tailgate, the truck that I bought was built with it and I didn’t really care and thought it was kind of a gimmick, but it has proven to be incredibly useful and very cleverly designed in my opinion.

Superficial scratching in urethane hardwood floor
Posted by Them on 6/8/26 at 7:41 pm
Any tips/tricks/products for minimizing these? I just noticed that one leg of one chair in our dining room has been scratching the finish. Almost none of them are deep enough to be through the actual finish, but they are creating these “bubble scratches” that are fairly noticeable, like the finish got lifted up a tiny bit and air got under it.
