Our social technology just hasn't caught up with our material technology. We are so over exposed to all kinds of info, both true and false, and a constant stream of consumptive entertainment. It's no wonder nobody knows their arse from a hole in the ground.

d)approximate number of casualties in the spanish inquisition?

No didn't think so. So shut up. This is a pointless statistic and is completely irrelevant.
This.

If you asked me how many jews were killed during the holocaust, my answer would be "a couple million"

I have no clue the number.

For the Auschwitz question, they say "couldnt identify Auschwitz"

What exactly does that mean?

I honestly don't know how this is even possible. WW2 is one of the cornerstones of even basic history classes.

people older than millennials are insecure as frick so they are bringing up shite from the 1940s to feel like they are somehow smarter, its pretty sad

some other things 50+ year old adults are better at "identifying":

Johnny Cash
Rock Hudson
Limp Dicks

they probably couldnt pick Kevin Gates out of a lineup tho

Taking a wild guess without looking, but is it near the Danzig corridor in Poland? Or further east?

No no no that’s bad-think.

The most relevant thing to all facets of American life is the horror of the Holocaust. It’s not enough that our grandfathers fought, bled, and died to stop the Nazis, we also have to constantly think about the Holocaust forever, as if we did it ourselves.

A strip of the former Second Reich that was gifted to Poland in the Treaty of Versailles, but it was filled with a bunch of Germans. Native Pole action against the ethnic Germans is what prompted a response from the Nazis.

Danzig is on the Baltic coast, fairly close to the modern German border IIRC

The accepted number is 6 million. It’s not a random number, it’s backed up with the meticulous records the Nazis kept, and census type information from Jewish towns and communities.

For instance My paternal grandfather’s Village in Poland, which was a village of renowned Jewish tailors for 500 years, was rounded up over a three day period in May 1943 and brought to the camps. There are lists of every name, the day they were rounded up, and the day they arrived. None ever returned.

My kids have received homework assignments on “ white privilege” at school. They have received their Holocaust knowledge and their Vietnamese diaspora ( their Mom) and their Irish Potato Famine ( my Maternal side ) knowledge from us. The schools generally stick to a Black Victimology template and ignore our common human stories.

Obviously the Holocaust is given priority on the historical victimization list by Hollywood and historians while others are ignored. And that angers people who have Holocaust- fatigue. Armenia anyone? Cambodia? Ireland ? Nobody cares. But there is no need to minimize the Holocaust just because like black slavery we have been bludgeoned with it every day of our life. Maybe we would be better off if we explained that we all share the same story of human struggle, war and death.

That's sad. I thought everyone knows it's just below Indonesia and just to the left of New Zealand....
