Are you saying AL is using their tax base on football?

Why. Isn't the gas tax that we already pay supposed to cover this?

Some states use the money for other things. In a lot of cases, gas taxes haven't kept up with fuel efficiency in vehicles. Cars have gotten much more fuel efficient while the per gallon tax has remained flat in many places. Attempts to raise the gas tax draw a lot of resistance, and it is difficult to do so. As a result, the gas tax paid per mile driven has decreased which makes it more difficult to keep up with building and maintaining roads.

I like it.

I'll check traffic on Waze before getting to Mobile to see check the clusterfrick level of the tunnel. If it's bad I have no issue detouring way the frick up 65 to avoid everything by using the northern bridge. If it moves traffic through fast enough I would definitely pay a couple of bucks to take that instead of my normal detour.

That video only depicts 2 travel lanes in each direction. That’s pretty much the problem with the tunnel.

Should just name it the T-Mobile Bay Bridge. Could reduce the tolls a few dollars.

No. The tolls will start at that level and increase, and never go away. If that bridge is still there in 1000 years, they'll be collecting tolls.

I kind of figured that, but I used your point to talk about how the current and old tunnel were constructed.

This is true. Also, they have been closing the Bankhead tunnel occasionally for pedestrian use. The rumor is it’s a test for an eventual permanent closing of the old tunnel for vehicle traffic.

Get ready because Lake Charles is looking to build a new 1-10 bridge via tolls. The main reason is the process is much quicker and it would take the state another 20 years to approve and finish it.

Are we looking at a different video?

It depicts 3 travel lanes each way...

I’ll keep taking the tunnel and let you dumbasses pay for the bridge

I like to see if I can hold my breath and make it out before I pass out and cause a 600 car pileup

Since when are tolls allowed on Interstate highways?

They have them on I-95 in MD and DE.

The bridge is not going to be I-10. The interstate will still run through the tunnel. This is a bypass.

Looks great.

There's something missing - anyone want to guess? It's pretty important.

ALDOT said the entire project will cost more than $2 billion. To help fund construction and maintenance of the bridge, a toll will be charged to drivers using the new bridge, the Bayway, and the existing Wallace Tunnel. Officials estimate the tolls will be between $3 and $6. Frequent users of the bridge will be offered a discounted rate.
