Since forever. However they aren’t allowed on existing interstates unless they are being improved. Which is what is happening here. They are adding a bridge, raising the height of the bayway and adding lanes. So we pay a toll.

welcome to Kansas. I-35 is tolled from the Oklahoma border up to emporia where the tollway becomes I-335 to Topeka where the toll then jumps to I-70 to KC. The toll was supposed to go away like 15-20 years ago but they keep coming up with excuses to extended it.

Quite a few states have tolls on interstates.

It was grandfathered in on roads that existed before they were interstates. Mostly in the North east.

The president made a change that now allows it.
..
Trump infrastructure plan to allow long banned interstate tolls.

I keep looking at the first 10 seconds at the diverging diamond intersection that is going in on the surface street there by what I presume to be I-10 going to the tunnel.

That's what is going in at the new Pecue interchange with I-10 in BR.

A section of Katy freeway section of I-10 in Houston area has toll lanes (like HOV) but its optional since there are multiple non-toll lanes

There better be a frequent user rate. I live in Spanish fort and work in Mobile. At a minimum it will cost me $1500 a year to go to work.

Something wrong with how you get to work now?

Why. Isn't the gas tax that we already pay supposed to cover this?

Imagine that, the government finding new ways to piss away money.

I can only speak for Louisiana, but a huge chunk of gas tax doesn't go to roads.

If I take the same route that I do now I will have to pay a toll for the section of bayway I use.

The cause way may be fine, especially after they finish widening hwy 31 through Spanish fort.

Really I’m bitching to bitch especially considering we are over 5 years from any sort of toll. Hell who knows what the frick I’ll be doing in 5 years

Zero chance the government ever takes away a tax.

And yet plenty of stupid people here will support and knight for additional gas taxes.

But but but they’ll be dedicated funds

Is the City and State paying for its construction?

Public Private Partnership (P3) is providing the funding.
