Says a person who never had to deal with stubborn picky eater. It's not made up, but its also very likely not a "disease". It's just a trait.

I refused to eat spinach. Had to sit there until told to go to bed. Hungry.
At breakfast my dad mixed the spinach into my eggs. I ate ravenously and have eaten spinach ever since.

Right. Because I parented my kids.

I'm glad I grew up on a family where everyone can cook. Gumbo was my favorite meal as a child. Fried shrimp was my treat. I never ate nuggets really.
I did like fish sticks and tater tots but mostly I ate what i was fed. Though i did hate Tuna casserole.

We have 3 kids and the middle one is picky as hell. They all get the same foods, and they all have to try 3 bites before they can turn it down. Middle child still only eats a handful of dishes; thankfully has a solid staple of dishes with some nutritional value.
And starving does not work, will just cry for a few minutes then move on with life. We never let the kids go more than 1 meal without something; they are still too young (2 - 7) to miss 2 meals in a day

The people on here are confusing, have a kid whos like ew whats that vs. having one who literally can't get the food down and will infact starve themselves.

My now 20 year old would not eat his blackeye peas for lunch one day. He was around 5 years old. He sat at the table until dinner and would not eat them then. He went to bed and I reheated them for breakfast and he would not eat them then.
At that point he won the war. All it took was one girlfriend in HS to say that blackeye peas were good and he tried them.
He's still stubborn AF

You gotta nip that shite in the bud as soon as it rears it’s head. I had to stay at the table till I cleaned my plate. Wouldn’t go hungry (which cuts out the I don’t want my child to go hungry reason) but I did want to go play/watch TV so I ate to leave the table. My parents NEVER gave in.
I blame soft parents. Weak arse cave at the first sign of conflict parents. Your harming your child by giving in. Don’t you realize that? Or I guess avoiding conflict is more important.

Both of our kids loved spaghetti and sauce. But they both hated vegetables. So we use thed blender and chopped up the vegetables real fine and added it to the sauce. Well it would change the color of the sauce so we would just add food coloring. Sometimes you have to be creative.

Here's the thing, my child is like a mafia member, she'll do her nickel, and do it happily.
"If you don't want to eat, then go to bed"
"ok" and goes to bed
she's the most stubborn person i ever met, like i said now, she cooks her own seperate meal and cleans up and as long as its healthy we let her do it.

Wrong move because when they get to be adults they won’t eat vegetables anymore.
Eat your vegetables or you can’t leave the table. That’s the way and you have to start at the first cry they don’t want to eat vegetables. Waiting till they are older makes it infinitely tougher.
Caving in or tricking them leads them to a life of junk food and intestinal issues. Yeah, real good parenting.

I mean she gets her nutrition in now, so I'm not blending up vegetables as it doesn't solve the problem of not eating/trying them. But that's damn creative with the food coloring.
What's weird is she LOVES rice dressing and boudin. I told everyone in my family i will kill them if they tell her whats in that meat.

Most people eat dogshit food most of the time and wonder why their kids demand the few good things that you offer them.

Same here. You either ate what was put on your plate or you went hungry----your choice. I can't really think of anyone in my extended family that would put up with that crap when I was a kid.
Now for the disclaimer: I was a kid from the early 50's into the 60's when parents were parents and there were consequences for being a little shithead.

ARFID is a legit eating disorder that some kids have that causes them to be picky, but it can easily be addressed. Parents need to quit spoiling their kids.
I would say the disorder is kids who aren’t picky eaters. I’ve never come across a kid who doesn’t think half the stuff on his plate isn’t gross. That’s why you don’t give them a choice.

As a parent of 4, my general reaction

Same. I think a lot of the problem today is how many people buy freezer meals/processed meals and allow their kids free reign of them. "Oh you don't like what's for dinner? That's okay - Just bake some nuggets or pizza."
It shouldn't be like that. Kids should not have free reign to "cook" junk food every time they hate the normal food you cooked. I know when I was growing up - we would have NEVER been allowed to touch the family's groceries like that.
Snacks were limited to specific things that were bought for snacks, and the rest of the groceries were just that .. groceries for the household. Not 1 person who doesn't like dinner.
