So i have strong feelings about this and so will other alumni and politicians.

First off, many of these PE deals are structured more like debt and I wonder if the institutions aren't allowed to take out debt that isn't against a physical asset like a building, etc. What they are doing is carving out the operating assets of the athletic office, tickets, branding, concessions, etc. and selling an equity stake that comes with a profit share. The schools can buy the equity back, the equity ownership is minority and has no final say. All personnel decisions stay with the school and they have board control.

I think schools that are capital constrained or dont have valuable athletic programs to begin with are trying to find a way to compete. Any blue blood program has no real need for this and/or have powerful donors and or politicians that sill step in.This has already happened.
