re: Multiple musical artists cancelling summer tour dates because ticket sales are so bad

quote:yeah they can avoid Ticketmaster and Live Nation. Doing so limits them from booking the largest and best venues in every city major city in the world, though.
These greedy musicians have every option NOT to go through Ticketmaster.
That's why there are people saying they saw good shows at smaller venues. Those venues and artists aren't handcuffed by Ticketmaster and Live Nation.
Btw, this is the same reason the Savannah Banana bull crap is so expensive and outrageous.

Overinflated egos
Some acts have no problem selling out the stadiums like Taylor swift and Morgan Wallen
Others think they can and fail

I went to Stevie Nicks a couple years ago at Simmons arena Little Rock. GF shelled out 150$ each for seats high up and almost behind the stage . She had a real good time and it was a good show, what little I could see. I remember having to piss bad but didn't feel like getting up. She could have bought me some decent shoes for that.

Fee for service. No one knows this anymore. The fees are so ridiculous now and the secondary market got greedy. Remember when individual scalpers were greedy? Companies said hold my beer. Add bots to that.
I as a consumer have ZERO idea anymore what a ticket should cost. I am old and understand the days of 29 dollar tickets are over. But what should they be now with a 30 year inflation adjustment? Basing this on Pearl Jam in 1995 when they fought Ticketmaster and got their own company to distribute tickets. It was a disaster but the ticket was 30 buck give or take. That was 1995 PJ at their peak.
We looked at Tyler Childers tickets about 2 years ago. $175!!? I have a 16 year old boy and thankfully not a 16 year old girl. I’d have been an “a-hole” trying to explain how TSwift tickets are in no way worth 4 figures. But what were they worth?? Opinions aside she was the biggest thing going at that time. She should have commanded a lions share, but I don’t even know what that is.

Who gives a shite about the Pussycat Dolls or Megan Trainor?
Pop listeners are notoriously fickle. Few have any true allegiance to any one act long term while acts in other genres are more likely to retain their core audience over time. All of the acts listed in the OP are well past their expiration dates in the pop world.

Ticketmaster charging fees that are damn near the cost of the ticket itself is one of the world's greatest scams.
No, it's not a scam. They did it upfront and compeltely legally, with the help of the bands/musicians. It's called capitalism.
Whether you and I like it is irrelevent to those facts.

Can’t pay for $6/gas AND $300 concert tickets. Hierarchy of needs and all.
Posted on 5/9/26 at 10:02 am to Kinderman
I wouldn’t go see any of those acts for free.

The concert schedules are stacked over this way. I saw Joe Bonamassa 2 weeks ago in Hamburg and I'm getting notifications about Metallica shows in multiple German cities. Maybe Ticketmaster is the problem?

quote:whatever people are willing to pay. Taylor Swift is one of one. To her credit, those “four figure” prices were not face value they were secondary resale prices. She could have and probably should have set face value higher than she did. You are using an example of extreme (unprecedented?) demand to determine “worth” of a commodity. I’m not sure why people insist on doing that
But what were they worth?? Opinions aside she was the biggest thing going at that time. She should have commanded a lions share, but I don’t even know what that is.

This story keeps coming up and what bothers me the most is they mention some of these artists that are like... Nothing. Meghan Trainor. She sang "All About That Bass" which was a fun little song but I've never heard literally anything else from her. Why would anyone pay more than $20 to see her?
Kid Cudi. I've heard "Day and Night". Nothing else. Who would pay that much to see him.
Pussycat Dolls? I remember them a little bit but did anything ever move the needle?
These are club acts. These are small club bands and singers. They've never been anything more. They're all trying to out kick their coverage.

Hmm. Maybe if the tickets weren’t $300/ea for the nosebleeds, maybe more tickets would be sold. I mostly blame it on the reseller ticket bots. The artists don’t even sniff that money. Something needs to be done. Make people go back to standing in line for tickets, and charge reasonable prices. Maybe then you’ll see full venues again

Auto tuned no talent arse clowns with overinflated sense of self can f right off. Playing recordings and a** r*p*** fans with ridiculous ticket prices and fees might have run its course.

I wish we could go back to the days of going to a Ticketmaster counter at a CD store and buying an actual ticket for less than $100.
And to think we all thought the Eagles were absolutely insane years ago for charging over $100 for a ticket.

Just got two tickets to see Jelly Roll in Brandon. Fourth row seats in upper tier.
Paid 200 for tickets and another damn 80 in taxes and fees
Saw TSO at Smoothie King in December. Paid 150 per ticket to sit in the lower bowl but by the back.
Only had about six thousand people. Process were higher than two years ago. I'd say fans voting with feet

But also post Malone sold out his last big tour
But how many times can a casual fan spend $300 to see him?
I used to get tix to all kinds of shows just to see artists/entertainers in their prime but it’s gotten a lot harder to justify for a show you are just a casual fan of these days. And even if you are a pretty solid fan it’s hard to justify multiple pops within a couple years

Get better taste in music if you are attending concerts where "culcha" will be in the crowd. Shitty music attracts shitty people.
They shot up a food court on a Thursday morning... you can't predict it.
