No, less. MSY is a mess.
I fly out of MSY roughly 5 times a month

One of the most convenient easiest experiences. I get to the airport 45 minutes before my flight and never have issues (I have Precheck)

without question. Out of habit (and PTSD from the old airport) we still get there 2 hrs early and inevitably wind up sitting at the gate for at least an hour. The new terminal is 100% better all the way around

and for those complaining about the new access road, I’ll just assume you never got a speeding ticket on the old road…

I don't know how they could possibly address the automotive traffic issue unless they have an entirely new check in area for the new gates to the west of the one they have now. Some really large airports have that, but it would probably be a more difficult/expensive thing to operate daily for a non-hub like MSY.

My MS Paint rendition of the "expansion"

Blue - Concourse A
Red - Departures expansion (ticket counter, security)
Yellow - Arrivals expansion + additional gates (additional baggage claim areas, customs, curbside pickup)

Surface Lot next to departures would convert to a garage like long-term lot.

With all of the visits the mayor has made to France you would think something would come of it flight wise. I understand capitalism but I have to believe there are 200+ people a day that would be interested in flying to CDG and/or connect in Europe. This would strengthen things for Delta since they are partners. That said, CDG is an epic dump.

I never use the rental car facility but its not uncommon to have to hop on a bus and go to another facility. DFW has to be just as bad as MSY. TPA is awesome.

With that said, no one is mentioning the worst part about MSY. If you check a bag, it take at minimum 30 minutes for them to get them out.

It amazes me how New Orleans which seems to be losing people is upgrading airport and adding a new terminal. Is tourism increasing despite fewer people? I feel at some point that will catch up.

You’d be surprised by the list of airlines wanting to fly out of MSY.

Makes sense. It's a really nice airport and there's not another big int'l airport anywhere close to it (by car).

Convention and Tourism Business. Also it serves all of SouthEast La and Miss Gulf coast The new airport is so much better than the old airport and actually taking a cab home is very easy and the new cabs are nice. I like using that instead of Uber. They have added a lot of direct flights last few years which attracts more fliers from outside metro NewOrleans which in turn attracts more flights etc. Breeze has been a nice addition. The British Airways flight is easy to use and can be taken to make connections to other parts of Europe. The old airport was a total dump

Has there been any plans regarding demolishing the old terminal yet? I doubt they would want to reuse and renovate it. I figure putting a new large economy parking garage right next to the rental car facility would help alleviate the parking issues plaguing the airport now. It would also consolidate the shuttle pickup and drop-off spot for both the economy parking and rental car garages.

I’d use the heck out of an MSY-CDG direct flight. Especially if I could take a train to my final destination. I’ve used the BA flight from LHR a few times, but it’s not that much better than connecting through ATL, CLT, or IAD depending on where you are going.

MSY serves the whole region. People travel from Lafayette and Baton Rouge and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, probably even Mobile, to fly out of MSY.

This is the third year in a row MSY has won the top award for their excellent customer service and accommodations.

The ASQ Departures program measures passengers’ satisfaction across 34 key performance indicators which include specific categories such as security wait times, value for money of parking facilities, helpfulness of airport staff, business and executive lounges, restroom cleanliness, terminal cleanliness, parking facilities, Wi-Fi access, ambiance of the airport and more.

MSY is one of only three airports in North America to win Best Airport recognition among those serving 5 to 15 million passengers per year.

The other two winning airports are Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport.

Then they were not too bright building it where it is now. Bad location and horrible traffic. Surely there was somewhere better.

It seems they may eventually move private aviation over that direction and try to revamp one of the terminals.

Not sure which way the expansion will go. Logically make a Concourse D to mirror Concourse A. Although maybe they remove Concourse A and build a new one that looks like Concourses B/C.

Thats impressive and I've been close to that a few times.

But Southwest boards 30min before takeoff, so if youre allowing 15 minutes to park and get through security, that is amazing.

We flew a lot back forth to PHX in 21-23, and always got dropped off and never checked bags. About an 1:15 before flight was pretty easy.

Parking and pickups were oftentimes a mess.

Not nearly enough room to build a parallel runway. If so it would probably take 20+ yrs to design , acquire additional land , demo , surcharge land, and then construct. Also not sure where another billion dollars would come from to fund it.
Possible that the existing railroad would be too close

MSY was voted top 3 airports in the USA 3 years in a row. Definitely need more TSA and flights.

My only complaint is the in close parking has been full so much lately and the economy - i have waited almost an hour more than once for a damn shuttle bus.

Otherwise no complaints.
