Some Catholic schools will offer discounts when you have four kids. Does not hurt to ask.

People are living longer, working longer, getting married and having kids later. Is it any wonder they divorce later too? A lot of 60 yr olds will have 25-30 more years to be miserable with their spouses.
re: What's the #1 turnoff for you that will lead to you not returning to an establishment?

If no one comes to my table and acknowledges my presence within 5 minutes, I am out of there. I am not asking for much, just a menu and some water. Then I can be patient.
Usually December is slow. Not this year...sigh.

This sounds like an awesome part-time retirement gig.
re: What do you find most annoying about working in a cubicle environment?
Posted by vistajay on 12/2/25 at 3:44 pm to southpawcock
I don't know how people work in cubicles, though I suppose you adapt. I've worked in some small spaces over the years, including for a few weeks a windowless closet with my back to the door so that I'd jump whenever someone came in to ask me a question. I designed my present office space when we moved to this building. It's 11 x 11 with two of the walls consisting of large panel windows and a view of a marina. It's heaven. My ambitious coworkers are waiting for me to retire so that they can assume my position and take over my office.

Battery was dying in a small devise and it was emitting a high pitched sound at a volume just noticeable in a room. I hid it in my friend's office and the rest of us pretended like we could not hear anything as he tore his office apart looking for it.
re: Hispanic businesses in New Orleans area are now putting up "ICE NOT WELCOME HERE" signs

My maid hasn't come for two weeks because she is afraid of ICE. Pretty soon, I'll have to start cleaning my own house, which is unacceptable.
Niece and nephew came down with the flu today. SIL (their mom) was hosting Thanksgiving. In laws now are terrified. They are in their mid-80s in poor health, so I would grant them grace except they have been like this all their lives. We've avoided cancelling Thanksgiving by agreeing to eat in the driveway. Covid redux.
Tried to take one in L.A. for the first time last week. It cost almost twice as much as Uber though, so I passed.
Burgundy is great for a French wine trip. Stay in Beaune, a cool medieval town where the big negociants have offices. Take a tour of the Joseph Drouhin cellars, and take a wine tour to the vineyards surrounding the town.
What surprised me somewhat are that few wineries there have tastings that are open to the public. You have to hire a tour operator and have them schedule it. You may be able to schedule some on your own but it was a lot easier to take a tour. I'd rather do it on my own, like you can in California.

I agree but don't have to worry about it so never have coveted a family member's money. Already am financially supporting one parent. The in laws are certain to blow everything they have, which is fine. I hope to make significant financial gifts to my own kids over time. But I tell them the main gift they will receive is not having to support their mother and I in our dotage.
For those who make their own sushi or sashimi using raw fish, where do your source it? Not thrilled about trusting my local grocery store, even when marked "sushi grade."

You could be sued for negligent entrustment. The plaintiff will attempt to prove you had knowledge that your daughter was not a good driver, but you still allowed her to use the car or facilitated her access to the car by co-signing the loan.

Business casual when traveling for work, unless I am going directly to an event that requires a suit..
Chinos and a polo when traveling for fun. Perhaps nice shorts if the summer.
Comfortable clothes like sweats when traveling internationally.

Most acorns by far in the 15 years I've lived in this house. At least 3 times more than last year. The winds over the last few days had them firing at us like bullets. We had to run to the car.
It's helpful when you have to make a lot of rice.
re: Personal Injury Attorney Fee Structure
Posted by vistajay on 11/6/25 at 3:04 pm to ChairmanOfThisBoard
Most Louisiana personal injury attorneys will apply a contingency fee off the top of the gross settlement, then deduct case expenses. The contingency fee is usually 1/3 pre-suit , 40% post filing of suit and 50% if goes to trial or appeal. But contracts vary.
