How is that possible? Boh Bros drove piles for 2-3 years. Did they need another year or 2 to drive more?
Boh didn't drive the piles for this project, Gulf South piling did. You make up shite like this all the time to sound like you know something don't you?
How the hell is WHO drove the piles relevant to the piles sinking? If anything, it's a design flaw. Neither the contractor nor the pile driving sub would likely be responsible for that. Or are you just trying to flaunt your knowledge on who was involved in the project for no particular reason other than to do so?

they wanted better highway access
Hahahahaha
Isn’t it inaccessible from Airline Highway? The fricking highway that got its colloquial name from the damned airport?

That’s not to origin of the name Airline Highway, though.

So they have 2% re-work on 3 miles of pipe?
Any sane man would GLADLY take those numbers from his crew

Its built on a swamp and its sinking. The plumbing is not the issue its the ground settling snapping the lines. The old system was built in vaults or banks system it had an allowance for settling the new construction is under slab. The general contractor and engineers have screwed this project up.
This is 100% the problem.
I have seen even large retail stores that have built in south Louisiana that have plumbing issues because of the ground.
If anyone has been to the Wal-mart in Galliano you can visibly see this issue.
When it was constructed in 1995 the asphalt parking lot was even with the store. Over time the parking lot sunk at a much faster rate than the store which was built on pilings. Now you can see an incline from the entrances to the parking lot. Not to mention there were a few issues with subterranean pipes that needed to be replaced. They even made an entryway to get under store in the front.
There is nearly a 1 to 2-foot incline just to get in and out of the store.
A year or 2 ago, the Target in Houma had issues with its plumbing and had to get some of its underground pipes fixed. They too had to dig under the slab to fix the issue.
I guess the lesson here is to either use flexible piping or don't use PVC pipes when you know the ground will sink.
Here is another thought, always put the restrooms on the 2nd floor that way you don't need access pipes in the ground.

Wat. I imagine a local spends far more time in their home airport than anyone else.
I spend 35 minutes max in the Nola airport when I fly out. Restaurants and amenities mean nothing to me in my home airport
Atlanta, where I connect the most, is the most important airport for me in that regard

No this what happens when you don’t do a geotech study before and build both on the edge of an estuary and a geologic fault

A bank or vault is like a large concrete and steel underground chase the utilities are ran in it as opposed to in the ground under the slab.
The old bldg is raised off the ground the only pipe or utilities that are in the mud are out of the foot print of the building.

I have never minded the old terminal. Easy to get in and out and the rental car facility is walkable (no damn busses). I guess for locals its more of a pain in the arse?
Good news you will be using the old Terminal well into 2020 and we still aren't discussing the massive parking lot spot fiasco (i.e. there aren't enough parking spaces to accommodate the new airport's daily traffic)

Used to be, you would design stuff in an office, and then the engineer would head out to the job site, observe, see the issues, then head back to the office, resdesign, head back to the job site, etc.
Quality metric is less than 5% post design (cost basis) adjustments

I don't know the exact details of their teaming agreement, but I suspect someone at AECOM dropped the ball as well.
So the City completely dropped the ball with their oversight and/or payments were arranged

frick that. I hope they don't open the new terminal until the necessary road infrastructure including the flyover ramp is completed.
Transitioning to a new terminal has to be a seamless experience and EVERYTHING has to be ready.
If that means waiting a few extra years until like 2025 or so, I'm good with that.

I agree with the roads being completed. Mitch is a shite stain with pushing this ahead of schedule.

The Fox 8 story did not mention that they had to tear up large sections of the brand new terminal cement floor to fix the "approx" 300 ft of drainage.

Why was this not placed about half way between BR and NO to serve both, this could have been an airport with actual destinations other than hubs.

It's a country wide engineering problem. Every city is having it. Baton Rouge library ?? San Francisco high rise condo building ?? The still under construction World War II museum hotel, designed by a company out of NEW YORK, is at a standstill. A year late because the steel beams that were used were undersized. Every floor sagging while under construction. Our universities are failing us badly
The empire State building was designed and built in two years. No computers.
All the technology at our hands and we can't build shite

Remember how the sheet piles in the 17th st canal turned out to be much lower than what everyone believed?
A contractor can screw up the pile driving. They also can do exactly what the engineer tells them to do, which could turn out to be wrong. Lots of places this could go wrong.

High % dbe participation requirement by the city and this is what you get
