On top of the current 1-2" of sinking, where the foundation is pulling away so much from the glass of windows the terminal is open to the elements, the joint venture forgot to account for the weight of the build out in the terminal (airline counters, computers, x-ray machines, conveyors, etc.) so the terminal will sink even more when they add the finishing work.

That’s truly sounds like a 3rd World airport to me

There's a poster on here who has been all over this.

Pretty much said its a disaster and is already sinking, the contractors and everyone fricked up, bad.

Did he mention if the city is suing?

knowing the city, they probably only contracted with the partnership that was formed specifically for this project and the actual companies won't be liable

Then tell us who did we can blame them

A joint venture of:

AECOM Hunt
Gibbs Construction
Boh Bros Construction
Metro Service Group

AECOM Hunt is handing engineering/design
Gibbs and Boh are the general contractors
Metro is the DBE providing support services

What's really frustrating is the entire point of design-build is to avoid these problems that we keep having.

Thought this was pretty standard for a billion dollar project?

I've also heard that all of the high profile food vendors are extremely upset with the set up for them and it doesn't lend itself to cooking the high quality food promised.

Yup. Again, completely inexcusable. Part of the issue is they started building before they selected the vendors.

So they said it was pushed back to September. Any word on what the latest estimate for the opening is?

"Fall 2019"

So I guess mid-December, maybe

Just wait until they start testing the baggage system. That almost always seems to delay airports and I doubt New Orleans does it better than anyone else.

Aside from building on some of the worst soil in the metro area on that side of the runway which is already causing taxiways to sink and pipes to break I do not understand why the drop off area was designed with only partial cover from rain. You will get wet if you are getting out of a car in rain in that area.

They could have done an end to end renovation on one third of the airport at a time for a far lower price. Of course that is harder to skim.

Should have build the mega airport in donaldsonville and taken it away from CNO

This is an even stupider idea. Build the airport across a river from where everyone wants to go. It's not like either city (BR, NOLA) is ever going to get close to expanding close to Donaldsonville.

He may not have designed or built it but he may have steered contracts to do either to cronies of his. Like his cousin’s concrete company.

but Mitch didn't personally design the terminal or construct it

so his administration had nothing to do with picking the architect or contractors?

There’s plenty of major airports 40 min from city center.
