I just can't understand why anyone outside of St. George would object to giving the kids a better opportunity to be educated with the City issue finally being resolved.

Because most of those opposing this are lazy, uneducated and will do anything the pastor in their community whips them up to do
I don't see anywhere in the State Constitution that specifies the degree to which amendment affects other communities.
I know that the precedent for Baker, Zachary and Central was to win the election on the state and parish level, but in reading Article XIII Section 1C:

quote:

Ratification. If a majority of the electors voting on the proposed amendment approve it, the governor shall proclaim its adoption, and it shall become part of this constitution, effective twenty days after the proclamation, unless the amendment provides otherwise. A proposed amendment directly affecting not more than five parishes or areas within not more than five parishes shall become part of this constitution only when approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon in the state and also a majority of the electors voting thereon in each affected parish. However, a proposed amendment directly affecting not more than five municipalities, and only such municipalities, shall become part of this constitution only when approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon in the state and also a majority of the electors voting thereon in each such municipality
.

Since this amendment if passed would trigger a reconfiguration of the MFP calculation, that means it would affect THE ENTIRE 64 PARISHES, as well as the other municipal school systems which is a lot more than "not more than five parishes" and even more than "not more than five municipalities". Did I read this correctly? Does this mean the multilevel victory is not necessary?

SG will need two high schools to serve the entire city.

For 5,000 school aged kids? Better make it at least 4.
So he chose instead to coach at "The Ole War Skule"? :rotflmao:

You're getting failing status quo whether you call St George or EBRPSS. 13 pages and no one has addressed how they are going to improve the student body other than taking the magnet programs from deserving kids once they complete their current band. Taxpayers that have been paying their fair share of taxes and want to send their kids to one of the best schools in the country will no longer be able to do so because you have "hopes and dreams." Now they will get increased taxes and have to decide between moving or sending their kids to Woodlawn+.

:rotflmao:

Good schools don't need ringer Magnet Schools. You plead for us to care about the fate of the kids going to magnet schools, yet you really don't give a crap about the rest of the kids who don't do you?. Why should we care about whether the magnet kids keep their schools? In the end, it's really the decision of EBR, not SG.

quote:

There is plenty of talk about a wait and see approach before parents remove their kids from private schools. No one has addressed how it will be successful with everyone sitting on the sidelines.
.

Only the school board has the legal authority to do so. There can only be a school board when this amendment passes and an interim board is appointed. The entire "No Plan" argument is disingenuous, unrealistic and just downright lazy. The process was established long before St. George thought about an ISD.

quote:

Everyone points out Zachary and Central but glosses over the fact that there wasn't a massive amount of turnover in administration at these schools.
.

There will be a an almost complete overhaul in administration for SG. EBR spends over 50% of the tax revenue it receives on only administration at the home office. We have Central and Zachary to look at as an example of how success happens, and Baker to show us what failure looks like.
As always Giancarlo Esposito is playing Giancarlo Esposito. What range. :rotflmao:
Lipsey is a lying POS, He buys influence through campaign contributions and toots his own horn at every opportunity. So far all he has done is attempt to retain the failing status quo through lies and manipulation and to protect his own influence and interests at the cost of the rest of the community.
Both of my boys attended magnet school or gifted and talented school at some point. One is a successful Nurse Anesthetist and the other holds two Engineering degrees, and works for a major Defense corporation, yet my wife and I (both intelligent and well educated) are still fighting for a quality education for all children in St. George, not just the select few who win the lottery. We also understand that the basis for a successful community is a quality education system. You really understand nothing. This just further confirms that assessment.

I want to thank you for convincing me to vote NO on the SG school district.

Yeah it was me that convinced you to vote no... :rotflmao:

If I thought for one second that any logical answer would convince you to vote yes, I MIGHT expend the effort, but you, like the maniacally selfish magnet school parents, aren't worth it.

Who the hell do you think you're fooling. You've been against anything dealing with St. George from when it was first mentioned. :rotflmao:

It's going to snow! Amendment 2

Posted by tommy2tone1999 on 5/1/26 at 11:40 am
Both The Advocate/Times Picayune and The Baton Rouge Business Report have come out in support of the St. George School Amendment on the ballot Early Voting begins tomorrow. VOTE YES on Amendment #2

Advocate/Picayune

quote:

St. George school system supporters have been steadfast in the pursuit of this objective. They have gone through the process laid out before them, and have done everything that legislators, the courts and so far the voters have asked.

VOTE YES on Amendment 2 - Early voting starts tomorrow.
In order for the new district to be created and funded, the amendment must win majority approval statewide as well as in East Baton Rouge Parish. We recommend a yes vote

Amendment No. 2. – YES

Do you support an amendment to grant the St. George community their own school district in EBR parish?

I have always been a supporter of school choice and backed Baker, Zachary and Central for their independent districts. I also supported the two efforts for an independent school district in southeast Baton Rouge that the Legislature and former Mayor Sharon Weston Broome denied twice. Now St. George is a city and wants to run its own schools.

This area has paid much in property taxes for decades to build our entire system and should be allowed this right to control its own destiny like others in our parish.

Several of our East Baton Rouge Parish school board members are opposing this vote simply to protect money, turf and union jobs. Shame on them. This is about children and education and giving parents choice.

This amendment must pass statewide and in East Baton Rouge Parish, too.

Besides paying more taxes how has the StG area improved?

SG is funded by sales tax. No tax increase there and SG is currently running with a $16M budget surplus. They're getting the backlog of City/Parish calls accomplished in weeks, not years.
