And this, folks, is why you should save every month and live below your means.

That $650 car note must be STINGING when you could have bought a used Accord for $4500 and got 3-4 years out of it.

Tenants will just walk away and rent something else, likely cheaper. They don't have any money, so lawsuits will be worthless.

They have been spending their stimulus money and not paying rent, knowing full well this was coming but not giving a frick.

Foreclosures will be trickier, but likely avoidable if payments are resumed. The amount in arrears can be added to the back end, or the monthly payment can be increased to make up the difference over time.

My renters have jobs and they’re not paying. Go figure.

I don't know how it works for those shitty section 8 apartments, but I know that I just signed a lease for a non-section 8 apartment in Houston and they required a $100 app fee, my current apartment manager name & number, and income verification. I saw my apartment manager the afternoon that I gave her number and was talking to her and she said they called immediately to verify my last 12 payments. I got a call that afternoon saying I was approved.

My point is that that new apartments really do check the rental history and I'm assuming if I hadn't been paying rent, I wouldn't have been approved. So if they're evicted, they're really going to be up a creek if they blew that money on dumb shite. Rent is pretty f'n important, even during a non eviction event like this apparently has been granted. At least I know that I won't be living around derelicts whenever I move to the new place this weekend.

But it's possible too that these aren't the folks that are buying the jet ski's and RV's that Stout was talking about. If I'm caught up on my bills with a nice cushion, and get a $1200 stimulus check, I may go blow on something that I wouldn't normally, like towards a jet ski or something. So it's possible that the two groups aren't the same, one doesn't necessarily mean it's the other.

In a lot of these cases, renters basically told the landlords to frick off because of the moratorium even when they had the money to pay.

There was an article some time back of some idiots in NYC with a 4000 a month apartment with a ton of roommates claiming they couldn’t make rent because nearly all of them were unemployed.

Considering unemployment is like $800 a week right now and there were like 8-10 people in the apartment, that’s the difference because “can’t pay” and “won’t pay.” At 6 people, that is $4800 take home PER WEEK across all roommates. 4 weeks would be $19200.
