There are going to be some people who scrape together the money or use their next stimulus to catch up. There are going to be some people that just get evicted.
I don’t doubt that idiotic shortsighted people exist. I heard it from restaurant owners when they started to reopen. But for every 1 person who decided to stay home on unemployment, there were 3-4 others begging for hours.
The vast majority of people in this country want to work. It’s ingrained in our DNA. The shut downs hurt a lot of people who just want to earn a living and support themselves/families.
Protections were put in place so that people like that didn’t get tossed out on the street because the government closed their workplace. Do shitty people take advantage of it? Absolutely. Is every or even close to most of these evictions this type of situation? I would bet not.

But this is in “normal” times. You’re seeing people losing their houses mostly because of their own decisions, not because a the government reacted to a pandemic by shutting down their place of work.

Probably. I’m biased too by the people I know who have lost their jobs. The reality is probably in the middle. Higher than what I think, but lower than what you think.

Oh, I agree. I feel bad for anyone facing eviction from this. Hopefully, it's not as widespread as what is being reported.
In the other scenario, it's hard to feel sympathy for those that dug their own hole.

i watch MeetKevin a lot and he's primarily in CA and talks about how expensive and tough it is to evict anyone there

Agreed on both. That’s why I support the government spending money/loosening restrictions to protect these people, even if opportunists take advantage of the system.
The government forced them to lose their jobs so the government shouldn’t just leave them hanging.

I would never be a landlord in Cali. Renters and squatters have more rights than the owner and you have to deal with some ridiculous rent control regulations.

People will need to live in family communes as many did after world war II. Boarding houses and the like will make a comeback too.

it's somewhat expensive, especially given all the credit and inflation needed to keep our government's debts paid
we're about to face the real cost of these policies once the bubble pops and real estate deflates
