It really makes rethink the whole concept of the sheriff being an elected position. So many sheriffs run for reelection without any worthwhile opposition once very four years and that just enables corruption to be swept under the rug.
I really think that Sheriffs need to answer to civilian leadership like a parish president or parish council, like POTUS nominates the Attorney General and Senate confirms or rejects it.
I like the concept of an election for sheriff but it has not been practical in reality and has actually enabled corruption.
