Kinda same thing here. Went to school with a girl who’s family wouldn’t allow her to take part in anything to do with Halloween. She’d always stay home that day. Not sure which “religion” it was

In 2nd grade this kid freaked out around Halloween time because one of our assignments was to color a witch. He was crying over what his parents would do if he did the class work.

I guess looking back I agree. In terms of judgement and vocal religious arse-whippings, the Baptists, Methodist and Mormons were what I remember the most. Small town of about 5K.

I have mixed emotions about Jehovah Witnesses. My uncle married one and my cousin also married one (didn't last).

They were decent people but they don't vote, don't stand for the pledge, don't salute a flag, are conscientious objectors (uncle's wife's brother chose Leavenworth rather than serve), and most of all will not accept a blood transfusion; they'd rather die than take blood.

All the ones I know are skilled craftsmen. They all work and work hard. They're pretty much taught to steer away from us heathens but as I've worked some of them we've actually become friends.

They'll drink beer and whisky but they're funny about food. The ones I know are hunters but they'll immediately bleed their kill as it's against their religion somehow to kill an animal or catch a fish and not bleed it immediately.

And if he fish are biting or the deer moving or the ducks flying; or if there is a Jehovah's Witness conference going on within 150 miles, don't count on them showing up.

I've never known them to steal or short me in any way intentionally.

Yeah not quite sure what her hardon is for organized religions. Just cause she’s a gullible, weak minded, follower who got duped by Scientology doesn’t mean every religion is bad.
Give it a rest already you dumb count. It’s not everyone else’s fault you were manipulated.

my wife just came in the room and saw me watching this and she said when they do surgery on a JW...they are not allowed to give them blood.....if they think its a surgery where they think they may have to make a choice to either give them blood or let them die...they will refuse to do the surgery.

My dad's side of the family has several of them. They don't celebrate birthdays or holidays. Weird beliefs for sure, but they've never cut anyone out in the family that doesn't believe in that nonsense.

I grew up in a town of about 10k. Probably 70% Catholic. Pops was non denominational but we mostly attended a Methodist church. I don't really remember anyone not Catholic, Methodist or Baptist.

Yeah, I remember seeing one of those reality shows about following around workers at the Miami airport. There was one episode where there was a bad wreck involving a bus of JWs at the airport and one of the airport employees was frantically trying to get to the scene to tell the paramedics that they couldn't give those people blood. I think a couple died as a result too.

Jehovah's Witnesses have the courage and conviction to knock on the doors of strangers to try and talk with them about their faith. I fundamentally disagree with what they preach, but I respect the hell out of their commitment.
And not only that, they believe there is a finite number of spots in heaven (or wherever) - something like 140K total, I think. That is serious dedication to potentially try to recruit someone that could end up knocking you out of your slot!

Neighbors across the street were JW. Mom was devout, kind of nutty. Dad was a good ole Arkansas boy, and wasn’t having any of that shite. One son my age was and is a good friend, he got dragged to church with mom. Lost track of him after high school, but he obviously told mom to shove her religion. They must not have been a complete nut job congregation, never heard about disfellowship.

The absolute worst thing about this religion, is their propensity to sue their employers.

Google it if you don't believe me.

JWs are pretty non-confrontational as far as I know. My uncle employed 4 or 5 at various times after Katrina. One day one of them lost his cool and shouted at my uncle. He's an old guy, but l wouldn't frick with him. He definitely doesn't need any help winning an argument.

Me and one of the other JWs witnessed the incident. He told me that he was going to have to talk to the guy who yelled. I told him not to worry about it, that my uncle was more than capable of fighting his own fights and that he'd either let it slide or fire the guy, but he didn't need or want our input on the situation. The 2nd JW told me that the 1st JW had violated one of their principles and because he saw it happen, he was obligated to talk to him about it.

I didn't hang around for the lecture, but in general, the JWs I've met are extremely polite.

Over the years I've interacted with and hired many JWs.

My experience has been that their religions are strong/strange, but they are humble and honest as can be.

They will preach when the chance arises, which I can respect, but I would befriend/hire them in an instant.

They don't believe in any type of medical procedures right? Or it might be major procedures like organ transplants, etc.
