For once the umpires screwed them and not us.

1962 New York Mets

That’s us right now.

As Jimmy Breslin quoted Casey Stengel, “Can anybody here play this game?”
These boys have been playing organized ball for 10 or more years plus they are now PAID to play. It’s the coach’s job to strategize. It’s their job to carry out the mission. The only thing on Jay is failure in the portal.

Jay Must Be Highly Pissed At Himself

Like Skip told the pitcher in a mound visit, “I ain’t mad at you, I’m mad at myself for recruiting you.”

I love Jay and he’s earned his career here as long as he wants it. But he better regroup this year and do a better job in the portal. And I am counting on him that he will.

What the hell???

Bella became one of my favorites this season and I had high hopes for her.

Pisses me off.
And, oddly, the water tower there has a bat painted on it. It’s really not that far from Alsatia, LA.
Joe was a good friend to me. I spent hours talking baseball with him. He actually went to LSU on a basketball scholarship and told me he had never even played in a sandlot or cow pasture in Red River Parish.

Red Swanson convinced him to finish the season when the first baseman got injured.

His first collegiate at bat, versus Tennessee, he hit a home run. The rest is history.

What a great man he was.
That lefty from yesterday would not have lasted in my childhood neighborhood.

Y’all forget Pete Maravich? Since then Don Redden? Ricky Blanton? Keith Hornsby? The list ain’t long.
Census takers were political appointees in many cases, usually some hack’s brother in law. All too often they were dumbasses who guessed or made mistakes.

Couple that with the lady of the house being the one giving information and often she was illiterate and gave the wrong age of her children.

My g-g-g grandmother was born in Lancaster County, SC. The damn census taker listed her birth place as Pennsylvania. As in Lancaster, PA.

L. T. I. = Louisiana Training Institute for boys. A reform school. Monroe, LA.

In the old gym lobby there were life sized portraits of Joe Labruzzo and Art Cantrelle, both who played there. The school was officially Southside High School

In the late 60s about 70% of those kids were simply orphaned and had nowhere else to go. The gates were open and few would ever run away.

By the 80s it became hell and was more like a prison, which it actually was.
When Scott was hired this board was elated.

When Brian Kelly was hired a lot of you were elated.

When you’re old like me and been around the block a few times, you learn to withhold judgment and see how things play out.

I never was sold on Kelly but was optimistic after his first year. I was concerned that he simply didn’t fit the SEC.

I think Scott mishandled the Wade fiasco in the first place but I, like most, didn’t have all the facts.

So let’s sit back and let everything play out. I’m glad Wade’s back. I’m optimistic about Lane. I’m glad we have Kim. I’m glad we have Jay. I’m happy at my age to be able to get on Tiger Droppings every day and keep up with you youngsters even when you piss me off.
I realize it’s way too early but any rumblings?
Never, ever complain about what Mama or grandmother put on the table.

Never leave dirty towels laying on bathroom floor nor any dirty clothes laying around anywhere.

Never, positively ever back talk mother, teacher, or any adult. Death would follow if said offense occurred.

Daddy was a combat Marine who fought Japanese three years in the S. Pacific. He raised us accordingly.
I think her first cousin is the Grant Parish clerk of court, not her brother.

Women Basketball Interviews

I just watched the locker room interviews ou YouTube.

Every single one of these youngsters gave good, articulate, thoughtful interviews.

We should be proud that we have these young ladies representing LSU and our state.

Credit to Kim and her staff for recruiting them.
She got 2 quick fouls. She’ll get back on track. Flauje and Mikayla were so damn intense it wouldn’t have mattered who else played. And I was pretty happy with our post play today and our defense stepped up.

Fulwiley Only Scored 2; We Dominated

When she only scored 2 and we win by a zillion points against a top25 team something going pretty damn good.
