Very familiar with a JW family. Like an earlier poster said they don't celebrate Christmas but will pocket that Christmas bonus and not think twice about it. Also "disfellowship" is very disturbing, the guy couldn't go in his own brother's funeral until everyone else was inside and had to leave before everyone else, no interaction and he couldn't go view the body. As far as the 144K getting into heaven, they are predetermined (by whom I have no idea) either you are a "chosen one" or you aren't so there isn't any working your way in or giving up your place. The more I've learned about it the hypocritical it becomes, but you'll never convince them of that!

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but shunning is not widespread or taught in the LDS church.

source: I'm an ex-Mormon from a large Utah Mormon family who is still on good terms with them and know many others. The closest to shunning I've seen is someone bad off on drugs that was told not to come around until he cleaned up.

There might be some people part in the Mormon church that may do this, but it is not anything taught by them. That is absolutely false.

Perhaps that success did lay the format to another show. It doesn't matter to me.

In elementary school, there were two jehovah's witnesses in my class. We had a festival for Halloween and they had to stay in the classroom all day and do worksheets or something.

I felt awful and smuggled them some candy. One of them took it, the other would not.

The one that took the candy home told me later that her mom spanked the shite out of her when she found it in her book sack.

Made me feel awful.

It sounded like she was medicated in that interview with Joe. And the way she kept calling him 'baby' made my skin crawl.
