Some are still in the office building even though they don't want to be. That deal should have been illegal.

Outsiders should look into a lot of what the state rents and ask why - the Saints deal has always been shady but in the end the Saints do help the state

State has spent to much money that the Saints mostly benefit from. Tired of the state throwing money at a New Orleans problem.

The city should have some motivation.

Benson, 74, announced the teams would be put in trust with the city as sole beneficiary upon her death.

The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District should not agree to spend more than it can afford. State forgiving debt and giving additional funds shouldn’t happen. Edwards shouldn’t have committed to it.

The LSED is a state agency/political subdivision comprised of seven members appointed by the governor. The board's primary purpose is to plan, finance, construct, ?develop, maintain and operate facilities located within the District for events of public interest. The LSED is responsible for the John A. Alario Sr. Event Center, Caesars Superdome, Smoothie King Center, New Orleans Saints Training Facility, TPC Louisiana, and the Shrine on Airline.

We should not pay for this. What is the Saint’s payroll every year? Several hundred million I’d guesstimate. And how much revenue do the bring in? Way way more than this. In a single year.

No, we shouldn’t pay for this.spend the money on something else.

I think it was pretty clear what happened. The state paid above-market rents in a pretty obvious attempt to get some more money to the Bensons to help with the Saints.

I'm not sure I agree with the tactic but at least the state got something out of it and I do think it was pretty in the open.

Does anyone have a hard number for that? Not some broad ranging estimate from a pro Superdome economist at UNO.

With all the money spent on upgrades in recent years, probably could have had a brand new stadium by now.

so the state owns the land and stadium structure.

The owner of the team leases the land and stadium from the state?

State owns the superdome via the LSED which is a state agency.

State hires and pays AMG Global (formerly SMG) to operate and run the Superdome.

Saints are the primary tenant. They pay a minimal lease payment (less than $1M a year). Saints get all of the naming rights money. Saints get a cut of concession and parking revenue.

The state at some point needs to look at building a new stadium. I love the dome and it brings in a ton of money for the state through national championships, superbowls, concerts, etc but even with these renovations it’s being left way behind. But I guess that’s most things in LA.

People at the state level are balking at spending $90M. The state share would be significantly more for a new stadium.}

My problem with this whole deal is that the state agreed to contribute $90M and now they are backing out. Typical LA politics.

Friend told me once how Memphis should have gotten the titans. Memphis made the big pitch to the nfl and when asked about funding Fred Smith said I’ll write a check.

Stopped him dead in is tracks and told him that’s exactly why they don’t have a team. You don’t walk into a meeting with a club of people who’ve been shaking down local governments for billions of dollars over decades and just offer to pay your own way. The last thing they want is a guy who pays his own way, it’s like Trump, the politicians can’t afford an outsider shaking things up and derailing the gravy train.

Nashville said, our citizens are ready to increase their own taxes to pay for our fancy new stadium and bam they win. The NFL owners are shakedown artists, and the name of the game is to work together, if you want a team this is how it’s going to go. Forever.

Football is an outdoor sport anyway, just remove the roof. Problem solved.

The public shouldn't be paying for the NFLs' arenas. Enough is enough.
