UPDATE ON UKRAINE
24 June 2022
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE

Ukrainian forces have announced that the pilot of a Russian Su-25 FROGFOOT ground attack aircraft shot down on 17 June was captured shortly afterwards. The pilot has confessed to being a former Russian air force Major, who had taken employment as a Wagner military contractor and had flown several missions during the conflict.

The use of retired personnel, now working as Wagner contractors, to conduct close air support missions indicates that the Russian air force likely is struggling to support the invasion of Ukraine with sufficient aircrew. This is likely due to a combination of Russia's insufficient numbers of suitably trained personnel and its combat losses.

Whilst conducting his missions, the Russian pilot reportedly used commercial GPS devices rather than Russian military navigation equipment. This likely indicates that Wagner aircraft are older models of the Su-25 and that the Russian air force is not providing Wagner with up-to-date avionics equipment.

Armed Forces of Ukraine to retreat from Sievierodonetsk – Haidai

Ukrainian defenders will withdraw from Sievierodonetsk to take up better fortified positions.

“The Armed Forces will have to move away from Sievierodonetsk. Our defenders have already received the order. Russians have almost completely destroyed Sievierodonetsk, all critical infrastructure is wiped out, 90% of the city is damaged, 80% of residential buildings must now be demolished as they can’t be restored.

Russian troops are advancing in the direction of Lysychansk from Toshkivka-Zolote. Enemy reconnaissance and subversion groups have already entered the suburbs, but attacks to penetrate farther into the city have been repulsed,” the statement reads.

Haidai explained this decision on the national television marathon.

“Unfortunately, yes, we will have to withdraw our guys. There’s no “treason”. No one abandons our guys or allows any encirclement. In the current situation it just makes no sense to continue holding onto positions destroyed over the many months of hostilities, ” said the Head of Regional Military Administration, according to NV.

Withdrawal is apparantly complete.

Ukrainian troops withdraw from Sievierodonetsk – war reporter from the frontline
Friday, 24 June 2022, 12:35

On the night of 23-24 June Ukrainian troops withdrew from the industrial district of Sievierodonetsk, thus having completed their withdrawal from the city.

Source: Yurii Butusov, a journalist, on Facebook

Quote from Butusov: "We have withdrawn from Sievierodonetsk. Last night [i.e., the night of 23-24 June - ed.] Ukrainian units withdrew from the Sievierodonetsk industrial district in an organised manner. The withdrawing troops came under fire on the section of the front where I was, but there were no losses. The withdrawal is bitter, but this decision is long overdue."

Details: According to Butusov, Ukrainian troops fought for Sievierodonetsk with dignity and have accomplished more than seemed possible in the extremely difficult circumstances they were in.

He underscored that "without the bridges and the pontoons, each day of resistance was purely heroic." He promised to share details later.

"We have withdrawn. But we will definitely come back. Eternal glory to the heroes who fought for Sievierodonetsk until the very end," Butusov concluded.

Protest in the Italian ???? Parliament AGAINST sending weapons to Ukraine ????. Supposedly, 70% of Italians oppose sending weapons to #Ukraine. #Italia #Italy #Russia #ArmUkraineNow #NATO #NATOSummit #NATOexpansion

Now consider the same for Moldova and Georgia

I really think the EU is making a mistake there. I guess this may be why the EU is trying to rush through adding Ukraine, and the others, because they didn’t have the domestic support in the big players ie Germany, France, Italy. Speaking of, has Spain sent anything to Ukraine? Don’t think I’ve seen them do anything at all.

Moldova and Ukraine in the EU would be a disaster. The UK must have a crystal ball.

There's no rush to admit, though there has been a fast move to make them a candidate. There are candidates in the queue that have been waiting 8-15 years and there's no expectation of quick admission. The point is to make Ukrainians and Europeans alike work toward a common future.

Oh sure, this is a union of countries that just stopped untold centuries of warring on each other. It's like herding cats. Still, candidate status gives countries aspiration to work toward reform. It looks like Zelensky may fire his crony buddy who was in charge of the security services and perhaps responsible for some of the failures in the south with Russian collaborators. The Ukrainians have a lot of work to do, but it's good to have carrots to motivate them.

In 5 years, Russia will have a buffer between itself and a NATO Ukraine, which is exactly what they wanted.

Lol
Their iron curtain was adjacent to NATO at one time.

At the end of this war st best they will be lord over a captured nation that hates their guts, and adjacent to NATO from Finland south.

You call that a big win?

Right now I can’t see a winner. Ukraine is getting destroyed, Russia is bleeding out and there are no signs it will get better any time soon.

The fact is that several EU countries and a significant portion of the US population just don't care that much about Ukraine right now. It sucks for Ukraine because they need support which I believe they were counting on a much larger scale of international assistance.

You can't make them give a shite no matter if they are EU or NATO. It's always been that wy and always will.

Agreed, there are no winners here. Russia is going to come out of this with an expanded NATO presence on its boarders, a damaged economy, and a military that is severely diminished and shown to be utterly incompetent.

Ukraine is going to have to deal with millions of displaced citizens, cities that have been reduced to rubble, and possibly losing more of its country.

True.

There is going to be a whole lot of money spent on new weapon systems that will come out of the battlefields of this war.

This is the first real land war since the Korean war. Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam were very different wars from what we're seeing in Ukraine.

MIC is going to feast.

I think miniature hunter killer drones are going to be a gamechanger. Have them lie dormant scanning for human IR signatures. Spin up and kill when one is detected in your area.
