I did go outside, also. I think my favorite was Pasanjan Falls, Buying beers for the guides after, was a great way to learn about the lives of the average Joe.

For the cost of going to 30A (to be surrounded by people from Ohio and Illinois) or Disney World (to be literally scammed) you could go to Greece or Italy.

It can be as much or as little trouble as you want it to be. One piece of advice is to go into it with an attitude of rolling with the punches. Things will happen. Just gotta be able to let them slide, adjust, and carry on.
The best trips to me are the ones where I have my flights set and maybe the first night's stay somewhere, but otherwise just winging it between the flight times. I know I fly into City A on this day, and fly out of City B on this day. What happens between those places and times is up for grabs.

I’ve probably been to 45-50 countries and have attended school at different ages in various parts of Europe. Done the 2 month long train backpacking thing and the villa with a live in butler things.
I couldn’t imagine not having learned and experienced all of that.

As a huge history buff, you can learn about different peoples and cultures without traveling there. I know of several places where it is common to wipe your arse with one hand and eat with the other. I do not wish to travel there and experience this firsthand( see what I did there?)....

Everytime I visit a foreign country, I notice two things:
1) Most people are just trying to take care of themselves and their family.
2) We take a lot for granted in the USA.

I have no interest in traveling, mostly because I have more local interests than I can currently satisfy with enough money, time, attention, and effort. Why be bothered with other expensive endeavors?
I travel internationally for work and find it depressing and dystopian. Natural history is what interests me and there’s plenty of that right out my back door.
Much like daily Starbucks and annual $30k Disney trips, International travel has become just another luxury that’s become an expectation.

Yep, same for any country in the world .. but I always add another to my arsenal of three or four local words/phrases to learn when traveling to a new country : "Where is the bathroom ?"

My wife and I are fine to not travel internationally.

I think there are a lot of really cool and beautiful places in the US and most people haven't explored enough of it. But there are few things I love to do more than get out of the US.
Love seeing different cultures, landscape, food, etc. of different countries. We usually do a new spot each time just to discover something new instead of going back to the same country even if we really liked it.

Of course there are and I did not ask the original question to insult US travel. My question was simply why people would feel the need to eliminate the rest of the world to visit.
I firmly believe that getting out of your routine and comfort zone (language and culture wise) makes you a better American.

I didn't take it that way. Just stating that someone really could fill all of their travel with great spots in the US (National parks especially), but personal preference I like spreading it out outside the US too for many of the reasons you've mentioned.

Not zero but low interest.
