Ive always heard it's pretty awesome?

I’m 51 and it’s not so much being wiser just more mature and the realization that it’s no big deal. I’m on tes and my levels are higher now than when they were in my early 40’s and I’m still considerably more calm now. So hormones is just an excuse

In my 50s with normal testosterone and solid energy levels and rather active. I still get pissed off but recognize the potential impacts of reacting to a situation as I'd sometimes like to. I see farther downstream.

Yeah, testosterone is considered a mood stabilizer and creates calm. Many menopausal women have little to no testosterone, and TRT helps to stabilize the crazy.

Yep. I am in my mid-50's and my "give a shite" meter is almost broken.

For me it was learning to never react fast to anything. Being trained in accounting you learn the rules are very black and white, but as a CFO I learned the world was more gray and less absolute. People are different and you need to find out what is truly going on before reacting in any way.

Nah, because from a physiological perspective you are generally weaker as you get older so you should be more aggressive and defensive. The older coyotes are the ones who go for exotic menu items, like your dog, for example.
The older you get the more experience you have with these situations and you've probably seen them go sideways and folks lose what they have as a result. Since you are now most likely better off than you've ever been, you're averse to losing what you have and tend to take a more careful approach to situations. Also, older people have more clout and respect in the community and are more able to use societal institutions to accomplish their goals. In other words, they can hire an attorney and the police are more likely to believe their claims.

Could it be that most of us end up resigned to a life of grinding based on wives not planning shite, always being late, never being prepared, and we've just given up?

But this can work the other way. Now I'm more likely to say shite to people in the movie theater, tell people to get their dogs out of the grocery store cart, etc.

Calmer? I have found I have very little patience the older I get. I've had to find ways to keep myself more calm

I think it is having things to lose, and people who depend on you.
At least that is what it was for me

Sure it's a combination of both but I think it's way more attributable to lower energy/testosterone than knowledge.
I've thought this for a while. When you're young and your hormones are raging, 95% of your brain power is targeted to landing tail. As your testosterone levels go down with age, your mind uses less brain power in the pursuit of sex, so you're able to think/reason more clearly.

It's both. Being a banty rooster only works for so long until someone younger could beat the shite out of you. The wiser part is seeing it young in life to simply avoid those kinds of situations.
It reminds me of a great Shel Silverstien song...

I’m 53 and have higher than average T scores but still way below that of my two teenage boys. I think part of the wisdom of age is you learn what can happen if you do stupid shite so you stop doing it.
I preach this to my boys all the time. Don’t do stupid shite. Especially if the outcome is something you can’t recover from.
Also, there is comfort in knowing there isn’t much work can throw at you that you haven’t already dealt with 1,000 times.

imma turn in my man card because there has been a few times when the wife is wanting to have sexy time and i'm so freaking tired that going to sleep seems like a better option
and dont get me started on friends texting and saying 'hey we're going to meet at 10pm to play a game online' and around 930 i'm like 'i'm out. i want sleep'
pathetic i know.
