This. It’s clear from OP’s post that even though he says he respects that she believes in god and religion that he actually really doesn’t. I know several couples who are different religions and they make it work because there’s a respect there and compromise. Even if you don’t believe in god, you can suck it up for your wife and watch fricking Joel Osteen one time or attend a service once or twice a year, out of respect for you wife. And out of respect for you, she won’t ask you or bother you about it any other time and doesn’t delve into deep discussions about it or get mad when you vent your frustrations with religion. You can suck it up and attend one or two services. Walking in that mother fricker won’t set you on fire

I think OP is obviously dying to vent his frustrations about religion and I think he’s only a few years away from not being able to keep this to himself and is going to be unable to stop himself from making this a big deal.

Is this a joke?

How can one be firmly uncertain?

Isn't the entire concept of uncertainty inherently filled with doubt?

Before you ask, I did not read through this entire thread before making this post.

Agnostic means you believe in god, you just do not subscribe to an organized religion’s version of him/her. As an agnostic, no religious service should bother you, that is the point of being agnostic, a search for the nature of the divine in multiple ways. The problem is not your girlfriends or her mom, you are lying to yourself about being agnostic.

Also science and religion are not dichotomies. One can be very scientific and believe in God.

This may be your definition, but it is not the majority agreed-upon definition

Not really. An agnostic doesn't really believe either way. I dont know if there is a creator, I also dont know that there isn't one.

Man made religion is bullshite though. It's just another way to control people.

My wife is thinking of converting to Catholicism. It's the only thing that helps her severe depression. I was raised Southern Baptist and it's completely anathema to the way I was brought up, but I support her 100%.

From your perspective she believes in Something you don’t think is real.

From hers you are haughtily denying the existence of God.

As an agnostic myself, those aren’t even close to comparable. Just let them watch their program you fricking arrogant douche.

Why does that matter? Its explicitly written in the bible NOT to judge.

This is the most misconstrued verse in human history. Read the whole thing in context, Jesus isn’t telling us NOT to make judgments, he is actually telling us HOW to make judgments. He’s saying don’t be a hypocrite. If you have a particular sin in your life don’t go judging someone else about the same thing until it’s dealt with in your own life.
Jesus/the Bible is clear there are things we should make judgments on. Saying rape, murder, etc are wrong is a judgement.

mankind's logic has always been a failure. either way, you're going with sight over faith which is the exact opposite of what is best.

you people would be wiser to remember that Osteen isn't who is going to judge you or whom you'll be judged against. Osteen doesn't properly represent Christ, but your take on Osteen won't keep you out of hell.

I am pretty agnostic, but I go to church with my wife. I have actually come to enjoy it because it gives me an hour to reflect on what is important in life.

We don’t have kids yet either, but I would like for them to go to church. I am not going to argue with them about the existence of God if they have doubts, but I would like for them to grow up with the same moral values that I did.

Watching Joel Osteen will not be good for you though, because he is in fact a huckster, POS.

Find a church that does not push a very strict orthodox, literal interpretation of the Bible. There are plenty of good modern applications of the principles of the Bible. Just search around until you find a church that fits you. They come in all shapes and sizes.
