The very definition of agnostic is antithetical to the definition of "staunch" was my point for the idiots.

You actually said this? You’re an idiot.

My mom was devoutly Catholic. Dad was an atheist. They made it work for 40 years .

Lighten up. So they wanted to listen to a positive, hopeful message for a little while. Big deal. There’s tons of negativity out there. It won’t kill anyone to spread a little cheer and goodwill. Listening to Joel Osteen and others brings some people hope and encouragement especially in the dark time we’re facing.

My SO knew ahead of time that it was going to be put into the morning’s agenda and didn’t tell me until it was WAY too late for me to excuse myself and without offending her mother.

What does that even mean?

When the TV goes on to that channel, you to grab a beer and hang out on the porch or wherever you want.

I'm not sure how that would offend her but if it did and your GF doesn't understand or take your side then... Run away as fast as you can because that would be a huge red flag that would only get worse.

Depends here.

If you're saying let the mom watch the show and just go do whatever you want I'd agree.

If the OP wasn't wanting to allow the show to even come on, then yes, he's going too far considering the context we have and what he's said about it.

Yeah, I don’t really get why OP couldn’t just excuse himself. Go take a shower, clean the garage, clean the kitchen...find something to do in your own damn house. My wife and mother in law wouldn’t be offended if I did that.

The smartest writers I’ve ever read, were Christian. And I say that as someone who was raised by an atheist (and an Anglican) and who has drifted to the church.

I would encourage you to read Eliot, Lewis, and Chesterton in particular.

Like you, I once believed in logic, but I came to appreciate, we’re not logical creatures. We’re emotional. And we’re also, and there’s no escaping this, driven by religious thinking. We grab onto ideas with a religious fervor, without regard to evidence, look at how the left has embraced global warming, and now climate change. It’s a fully religious movement, with its owns liturgy, and clerics.

The left, in this country at least, is really a religious movement driven by Puritan theology. The unusual thing about it, is that it’s a religious movement, without god.

And that’s a curious place to be, the movement is founded in Christianity, but few are self aware enough to understand why they believe what they believe, and where it comes from.

They would argue that morality is self evident, but you only have to look at other faiths and cultures to see how what is moral is peculiar to a people.

If you really care about her, give her her faith.
