I ski almost every year usually during Mardi Gras. It's really not much more expensive than a Disney trip. My family and I know how to ski so we enjoy it. We are definitely not elitist and It's not our whole personality. And if you can't stop on skis or walk through snow then this is clearly a skill/health issue with you. Don't crap on everyone else who enjoys skiing simply because you can't do it. If you don't like it then stop going.

There are few things I enjoy more than skiing.

Now sex, THAT is overrated. All those orgasms and all that flesh and all that urgency . It’s definitely not skiing.

Mid twenties this weekend in Idaho. If it's sunny and in the twenties or thirties, you'll need to shed layers you're too warm.

I hate the altitude. Ears constantly popping and unpopping

Altitude in CO is definitely an issue. But do you also hate flying on planes? It's the same thing with ears popping

Skills issue, you are doing it wrong. Probably don't have the leg muscles

You have to actually be good at it to enjoy it. The lines aren't as bad higher up the mountain. Also this is a horrible time of year to go. We went Dec 5-8 and we just walked up to the lifts.

You also have to get your legs in shape before you go.

Only in the beginning. Pretty easy to stand and strap in after a few trips.

Not really, step ons are great. Burton Reflex's are fantastic and for noobs the Nidecker Flow's are solid, leave one locked in while on the chair and step on the other right after you get off, don't even have to stop much less sit down. Having your hands free is nice as well in addition to just being funner.

It's definitely a status thing, especially for people in our area (LA, Southeastern US)

I have been many times and enjoy it, but I haven't been in years due to a lot of the factors you referenced. It has evolved into another way for people to show their perceived wealth by bragging to their friends that they went to Breck or Vail during Mardi Gras.

On the surface it seems great but the juice is slowly becoming less and less with more squeeze. Lift lines, clueless people on the mountain, bratty kids at the resorts, etc.

I’m not an athlete by any measure, but I’m not some sedentary blob either. Skiing was the one physical activity that I couldn’t do. I tried for two days on the bunny slopes at Alta and I just couldn’t get it. Even had an instructor day two. I could tell the MFer thought I was retarded by the end of the day. I just couldn’t do it. Most frustrating thing I’ve ever tried to do.

When I got back home, everything hurt. Everything. I love out West, but I’ll stick to summer trips.

Highly overrated. Gravity does most of the work, anyway.
