Option #2 obviously

Incomplete on this one due to injury but remaining grades are solid A’s.

There were better safeties available when it drafted Jonas Sanker in the same round, too

Nearly every sentence of the write-up is wrong, which is impressive. Can anyone name a better safety taken after Jonas Sanker?
B-. ‘Reach, reach, reach’. Remember this when we inevitably melt in 2026.

Mel Kiper knows nothing

Top needs entering the draft: Quarterback, cornerback, wide receiver, guard and edge rusher

Reach, reach, reach. That's what I have in my notes for the Saints. Too many reaches. I was critical of their first round. I was similarly critical of their second and third rounds. Some of that centered on their QB approach -- I had a much higher grade on Shedeur Sanders than I did Tyler Shough, whom they took at No. 40. But I just didn't love their value throughout.

On Shough, are we sure he will be the heir apparent to Derek Carr? The veteran is dealing with a shoulder injury, and his status for 2025 is up in the air. I understand that Shough is 26 years old, but I'm not sure New Orleans can put him on the field this season and expect to win games. And really, if you're taking a quarterback in the top 40, you've got to believe you can win games with him, either immediately or after he catches up to the speed of the league. I don't have that belief.

I liked the selection of offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. in Round 1, but Vernon Broughton was my 20th-ranked defensive tackle, and New Orleans took him in Round 3. There were better safeties available when it drafted Jonas Sanker in the same round, too. The Saints didn't get an edge rusher until Round 7 and didn't take a wide receiver at all.

So what saves this class from a C? They added a few good players on Day 3, including linebacker Danny Stutsman and cornerback Quincy Riley. Those are solid picks. Not stars, but solid prospects. Overall, I would have gone in a different direction if I were in GM Mickey Loomis' shoes.

They're still a few key pieces away from really competing for the division.

If we beat Atlanta, Shough would be 4-1 in the division with a sweep of the division champion Panthers. Doing it with third string players too.

Damn, 4 quality, immediate starters.

Nice to see Saints win ….. but I believe we NOW currently have the 10th pick that will move to top 13-16 pick (or higher) if they win 2 more games.

Would love to see them win. Losing is infectious, losing franchises nearly always pick at the top, winning franchises usually pick at the bottom. Hard to get rid of once losing infects your culture.
I was at that game but in the opposite end zone unfortunately, it was hard to see exactly what happened, so we didn’t know we were witnessing Saints lore. Was with my dad, who has since passed away, I don’t think I ever saw him laugh that hard. Every time the Saints would come up for the next 20 years, he’d say, ‘what ever happened to Turley? That guy was a maniac.’ Made an impression for sure.

If we beat Atlanta, he’s 4-1 against the division. Preseason, there was no universe where I thought this was possible.

MICKEY LOOMIS

I think our drafting is more Kellen/Tolzien/Staley/Ireland. This draft was very different from Payton era drafts.
quote:

He wouldn't make it past the Giants at 3. Assuming you remove the trade, Cleveland takes him at #2.

I think that’s right. Ward looking like a Ryan Leaf bust so far.
I think 10 is the floor and maybe top 5. He’s easily the #1 qb from the draft so far. Has shown the ability to elevate his team and teammates which we haven’t had since the prime days of #9.
My experience is they make you pay up front then reimburse, but only after doing their best to classify whatever surgery you had as preexisting. Can skirt Obamacare rules on that because technically it’s not insurance. Nightmare stories out there about people being uncovered with cancer, left with hundreds of thousands in medical costs. BCBS not perfect but will pay and you have a measure of price protection to prevent gouging.
If we win 6 and you factor in 2 of our losses (Arizona, Miami) were due to dropped passes at the end of the game, could easily have been 8 wins. Could argue we should have won the SF game too. That’s a crazy successful season given that preseason we were favored by Vegas to land the first overall pick.
quote:

Best part is they don’t have their 1st round pick in the upcoming draft.

That trade is looking like one of the worst in the last decade.
I think Maye is a comp. Patriots didn’t win many games his rookie year, but it was obvious they had something in him. Used the next draft to build around him. We have a defense, two elite tackles, and a center. I wouldn’t be mad at all skill positions and two damn guards in next year’s draft.
Looks very smooth, quick release. Doing it with almost no real skill players, and two guards who are practice squad level. I think we hit gold with that pick at 40.

I think in the AAC you are right.

What now for Tulane?

Charlie Huff? Would assume that happens tomorrow.

So, it's an IRA that gives you the first $1250 free? I'm pro Trump, but this doesn't seem like some new idea. Just a new name on something that is already available to the public.

Except you can only contribute up to your yearly salary to an IRA, so unless a 2 yr old is making bank at $5K/yr, they could not contribute to a tax deferred fund. This is actually pretty novel.
