A guy I knew said he and his wife wanted to get into the swinging life and the group they contacted told him his wife was too fat and ugly and the other couples probably wouldn't want to hook up with her. We all thought he was joking about the whole thing till we saw his wife. Changed our minds quickly.

Long term, these stories seem to be the norm.
Once the novelty wears off, some dude starts noticing how much time his wife spends with other dudes, and it becomes real.

Is this a serious question?? Do you eat the same dinner every night? Of course not! Marriage should be no different? Life’s about options and the pineapple community has a lot of choices! The only negative is you may get an occasional itchy rash or something.

You can. Depends on the group of course. My neighbor invited me to a party at one of his friends houses when I lived in Germany and it turned out to be a swingers party....he did not tell me straight up but after the fact I realized that he had insinuated it but me not being German I did not catch the subtle hints like the number of gorgeous women who would be there and how much he enjoyed their company at the friends house when he had gone before. He worked close to the place so I was going to meet him there. When I knocked on the door and the host came to the door it seemed pretty innocent...when I walked into the living room and almost everyone there was butt naked and some were engaged in all manner of shite one with the other (or several) I knew it was not just a party but was a PARTY. I stayed about 2 minutes, pretended I had an emergency and left. I never saw my neighbor there....he claimed to have been there but he wasn't anywhere between the front door, the vestibule or the living room....I wasn't looking for him though and if he was involved in some of the shite going on I doubt he was aware of anyone entering the room....
It could be that some people get married because they love one another but do not plan to be exclusive sex partners or mutually decide after the fact that fidelity isn't their thing...who knows what dwells in the heart of man....

I think for some they get introduced to the lifestyle years after being married.

I’m guessing there are some situations where a young guy just wants to go to swinger parties for the sex and has to go with a female to get in so brings whomever he knows.
If the relationship starts that way and the couple get along well, then maybe they are meant for each other and should get married eventually.
It would seem like the situation of couples suddenly trying it or wanting to get into lifestyle would have far too many unintended risks.

I'm not in the lifestyle, but a lot of posts seem to assume that these parties are just open to the public and anyone who wants to go can just grab a willing wingman/woman and waltz in.
I'd think these are pretty exclusive/invite-only affairs (pun intended), and the host would know exactly who is there.

Be careful. I've known of a handful of acquaintances where it started out like this...then eventually led to the wife deciding she like the girls more and leaving the husband.
It sounds cool in theory, right up until you realize you invited the cheating partner into the marriage. And EVERY guy I know, or know of, who had this happen to them swore at the beginning there was no chance their wife would leave them for another woman.
