Having port access to import and export goods is pointless?

my strategy on choosing states as allies would change depending on the circumstances.

Selecting 5 states people are moving TO rather than moving FROM seems like a smart move rather than basing it on 150 year old history.

I would take TX and the 4 adjoining states that would be the most useful, which I can't decide

All of you are leaving Alaska for me to dominate in energy production. Thanks

New York controls the financial markets

Delaware controls the corporate status of most of industry

Illinois is a major commodities trading hub

California produces most agriculture and must access to energy

In no particular order:

1.) California. 48 million people to serve as cannon fodder.
2.) Louisiana. Crazy coonass gun nuts.
3.) Tennessee. Fight in the hills.
4.) Texas. Crazy cowboy gun nuts.
5.) Florida. Crazy arse psychotics who will scare the hell out of the enemy.

if you're fighting a war amongst other states due to invasion, i wouldn't be so spread out. transport of goods across enemy lines would be nearly impossible.

Louisiana - access to the Mississippi River, deepwater ports, agricultural terminals, and massive petro-chem and refining capacity
Texas - huge population, large oil reserves, massive refining capacity
California - huge population, deep water container ports, control over the most productive agricultural region in the country, control of Silicon Valley, control of half of the media
Virginia - controls the water approach to DC and the pentagon
New York - control of one of the most important port cities in the world, a federal reserve bank, massive population, the other half of the media and the stock exchanges

You pick 5 states that the last time they were aligned as allies they lost a war, to fight against a new enemy?

So I'd have nothing an invader would want, just open skies and no cultcha

How hard are the rest fighting against us?

Give me Texas through Florida. That gives me an entire coastline.

Then through rousing speeches and propaganda, mixed with a sense of purpose, we wipe out any resistance in the rest of the SEC and bring their troops over to our side.

This Neo-confederacy smashes its way up the Mississippi, ensnaring the bread basket states in order to feed our armies. In tandem the bulk of our forces fights it's way up the eastern seaboard all the way to DC. They put up a valiant last stand but ultimately are overwhelmed. With this pincher movement we collapse on the remaining states left to between the Mississippi and the eastern seaboard and wait for winter to come.

Without the Midwest forms to feed them and the refineries to supply their own oil, Will be a harsh winter indeed. Killing off the weak and less industrious. Safe and warm and well fed in the south we offer them terms of peace. Join us or freeze. Their leadership refuses but we have been steadily smuggling moonshine food and fuel to the common folk.

In a daring Christmas coup the leadership is slaughtered by hungry soldiers of the working class. Blood stains the Christmas trees as soldiers from both sides celebrate in their grand old money estates.

Common folk rejoice as they throw off the collective yoke of their progressive oppressors. this is now a working fighting man's army.

With the north east taken we'll push west in the spring offensive, all the way to the Rockies. We'll take Denver with a hammer blow, then boulder after lacing their weed supply with high potency LSD.
Then the main army will split in two, Group A coming south down the rockies and taking the southwest with reinforcements from the SEC pushing west along the border.

Group B goes north through Wyoming and Montana, reinforcing with willing troops who want to defect to our cause.
Finally, in the late summer we hit Washington and Oregon, wiping out the commies and degenerates with extreme prejudice. The army marches south down the coast through Northern Cali, taking their fertile fields as Group A pushes through Vegas into Eastern California.

The Commies in Metro Cali are all that is left.

Many attempt to flee from the ports but they are sunk in short order by our navy.

With no food and no water the cities quickly fall to mayhem.
Blood and fire is the order of the day. They turn on each other.
Decent folks flee and and are allowed to go into refugee camps where they are provided for, upon conditions that they work.

There is nothing free in this new society. You work or you starve.

The winter passes. It is bitterly cold and many in the remaining cities resort to cannibalism.

By the time the spring rolls around civilization has completely collapsed there.

We send the bulk of the army in at this point. Urban warfare tactics. We take no quarter.
It is brutal. Those that have survived have done so by being the strongest and most ruthless.

The battles are hard fought.

Some pledge themselves to the new order and are allowed to live.

The rest die.

When the smoke clears there is a new order among the ashes.

One of law and hard work. One That does not celebrate degeneracy, but decency.

Then we turn our armies towards the real enemy. The filthy, treacherous Canadians.

I'm picking Louisiana purely because fishing and wildlife can sustain me in a long war.

Other places that are in-land??
Burn crops
Ransack farms
There goes your food supply.

What ya gonna do? Pollute the Gulf? We've been there and done that...

This is a good choice. Coastline and Miss River access. Texas and Florida have big populations. Plus BR traffic will slow any invader.

California and NY would be good but they're sort o spread out.

California
Florida
Illinois
New York
Texas

Say they're liberals all you want, but I control the biggest cities with the media to control minds everywhere else, Wall Street, and technology. I probably have the best chance of getting foreign allies to help my cause.

Yall are seeing the pluses and ignoring all the negatives of taking the uneducated populace/fricked up infrastructure of LA,MS,AL

Id take Texas , NM AZ, CA, and OR or NV or OK or CO and invade that small sliver of OK

Oil & gas, coastline, 2 HUGE ports, banking, tech,
sure NM has uneducated people but not enough of them to be that much trouble.
