If an invasion was coming, and you had to pick five states as allies.

1) Louisiana. I can't remember if we have more guns or more bullets per capita than anyone, but we have a lot.
2) Texas. A lot of people in Texas. A good number of them don't suck.
3) Mississippi. Not a bad group as a whole. And I would imagine they are just as armed as we are.
4) Alabama. For all the shite we give each other, once you take away the meth, they aren't bad guys.
5) Georgia. They provide us with access to the Atlantic.... And they are close enough to where we should be able to get south Carolina. Which is who we really wanted anyways

Louisiana and Texas for sure. Having control of the port of the Mississippi River is huge and Texas is pretty self explanatory

The first 3 are no brainers due to their size and economy, with Texas additionally being heavily armed. I had to think for a while about the last 2. I don't know why Minnesota, it just stands out in my mind for some reason.

Florida, Georgia, Texas, California, and a random Midwest state like the Dakotas.
Will need troops provided by the high population states, access to both coasts with plenty of navy ships, and a Midwest state for Air Force operations and last stand state.

Invasion by what/whom?
Texas and Florida would seem necessary for any air/space/rocket based defense or attack.
For infantry or simply fueling/resourcing a long term defense, Texas and LA would be necessary.
Not sure any land locked state would be useful besides resources or population, although if it was naval war fare, there would be a slight advantage.
