1) Funneling traffic through the center impacts traffic negatively because we have ill conceived off ramps, with lights 40 yards from the interstate exit. There is no service road system because of how the traffic grid was haphazardly thrown together. You want to see something done right? Go to Dallas/Ft. Worth.

How does this disagree with one of my points? I am just talking about the I-10/I-110 eastbound merge. You bring up lights, exits and service roads. That is a whole different situation.

2) The issue with the audobon bridge is failed leadership. The money was set aside 25 years ago and traffic isnt' at the level it is now? What genius thought, 25 years ago, that New Roads/St. Francisville was going to be the 3rd largest city in Louisiana? New Roads has what 2 power plants. There is no real industrial or commercial center there. St. Francisville is basically a Residential town (though beautiful). So you are telling me that the state leaders were either too scared or too inept to foresee the problem down the road, that maybe, the capital city and its surrounding areas might grow?

You ever heard the phrase "hindsight is 20/20"? The public had to vote to pass a tax to build a bridge in the proposed location. They cant just go back and change the location on a whim. I guess they could of maybe held a special vote to vote on moving the bridge.

Just pointing out how dumb you sound using the situation today as proof that BR has a traffic problem.

Eh, an argument can be made that if BR had more than one controlled-access highway bridge, an interstate shutdown like this would be less of a clusterfrick. It'd still be a cluster, but not as bad. BR has a MSA population of ~800k, and yet they only have 10 lanes in each direction to cross the river, and only one of those is controlled access. If the "new" bridge is out of commission, you are forcing all of the traffic to local highways with signal intersections.

Yep. It still didn't make one more lick of sense to spend all that money and locate that St Francisville/New Roads bridge where it was 25 years ago than it would today.

There was literally no projection that this was ever going to be an area of large growing population to necessitate such an expenditure. One side is mostly a floodway, the other is mostly deadzone around a nuclear plant and a huge prison farm.

It was sheer abject stupidity from the getgo and a huge waste of scarce transportation resources. There's no way to put a nice spin on it otherwise. No way v

Didn't the gas tax help fund that bridge?

I'm looking at options right now of just where a loop could go, or anything to help traffic. Starting a loop heading North between rosedale and lobdell going north, connecting to 190. Revamp 190 roads and the old bridge. Add additional lanes, reinforcement, supports, etc... Today the bridge improvement alone would probably cost around $450 million.
Anyway, continue the 190 improvements then instead of heading south, go North towards Central, and follow it south, connecting back up with the interstate via Oneal. All repurposed streets would have to be widened, and service streets added to eliminate red lights.

You could possibly go further, but with added expense.

Then, in conjunction with that, add a bridge in plaquemine near the ferry crossing or a little further down the road. Also, revamp LA 1 intercoastal bridge. Add additional lane heading North towards I10 West and Port Allen.

Also, do something about the 1 lane funnel at Washington Street. Close it off, and make it a second lane. Extend the Off ramp lane to dalyrymple, and add a lane to go left and right. Extend a right lane shoulder with a yield sign.

I-10 west was moving from the split to downtown an hour ago pretty well to Downtown. Just take I-110 north. just leave earlier than you would

I would love a vote to add a new bridge. But we never have been given that opportunity. This year, the legislature said no to a new tax because it was an election year. Jindal would have vetoed anyway. If you are spineless, let the people vote.

Just take I-110 north

110 north was backed up from the governors mansion curve to 190. It was solid. That was about an hour ago but I don't think it'll be better until they open 10.

I used to work at the WBR Planning and Zoning office. Went to a few "BR Loop Meetings" while I was there. Keep in mind I worked there almost 10 years ago! While I worked there I learned some background on the interstate routing history.

Any new bridge is probably 20 years minimum until it is finished.
