re: I10 east and west bound shut down in BR

I got on airline at old hammond at 7am going towards laffy and it has taken me an hour to get over the bridge. Traffic cleared up at the LA-1N exit for me but the people on 190E they are at a standstill

You show me a major city that funnels interstate traffic across a bridge with only 1 other water crossing that was built in the 40's.

You show me a state government that wastes $350 million on a suspension bridge 40 miles North of the problem traffic area in BR?

You show me a Dotd about to spend $50 million on an on ramp that borders Ascension parish that will still not affect traffic.

And I suffer through this shite daily.

You will not find a single person that disagrees with the design flaw of the new BR bridge. BR leaders wanted the bridge to pass close to downtown when it was constructed. They got their way and what we have is a direct result of that. It is incredibly dumb. However, that has literally nothing to do with the traffic today.

You do realize the money to build that bridge was set aside around 25 years ago? The traffic wasn't at the level it is now. The state was pretty much trying to guess where a bridge would be needed and they guessed wrong.

61 north toward St Francsiville. Go to New Roads then up to Marksville. Cut over to Bunkie then over to I-49 S to Laffy.

Believe it or not, most of the big projects done by DOTD are done because some state rep wanted it done. If you ever look into house bill 2 (which details the capitol outlay monies) it gives you an idea of how much money is set aside for roadwork. DOTD doesn't always get to choose how it spend its money.

Listen, i don't think you are advocating there isn't a problem with BR traffic but i disagree with you on both your points.

1) Funneling traffic through the center impacts traffic negatively because we have ill conceived off ramps, with lights 40 yards from the interstate exit. There is no service road system because of how the traffic grid was haphazardly thrown together. You want to see something done right? Go to Dallas/Ft. Worth.

2) The issue with the audobon bridge is failed leadership. The money was set aside 25 years ago and traffic isnt' at the level it is now? What genius thought, 25 years ago, that New Roads/St. Francisville was going to be the 3rd largest city in Louisiana? New Roads has what 2 power plants. There is no real industrial or commercial center there. St. Francisville is basically a Residential town (though beautiful). So you are telling me that the state leaders were either too scared or too inept to foresee the problem down the road, that maybe, the capital city and its surrounding areas might grow?

Personally, i think it's weak willedness. Afraid to make the tough decisions, or the right decisions because it might be "hard".

This is turning into a road rage thread. Most days commuting BR to Lafayette is uneventful. But when something does happen, it HAPPENS

I'd avoid 190. If you can, make your way up to st. francisville, cross over to new roads, make your way through livonia, and either take 190 to opelouses to lafayette, or livonia to maringouin to the interstate to lafayette.
