I agree but the hard part to accept is that it's so damn avoidable for it's small size.

Many of the city's street lights need to be better timed and programmed to only flip when a car is waiting and to prioritize the main lane of traffic. Rarely used side streets don't need to flip unless there's a car present. I can't tell you how many times I've sat at Perkins and Pollard or Quail Drive (for several minutes each; because, I mean, timing them is a step too far).

in 2024, Baton Rouge installed 176 miles of fiber-optic cable to connect essentially all (~470) parish-managed signals to a central Advanced Traffic Management Center (ATMC). But clearly no one is monitoring them to keep them on task.

Google has something called Google Project Green Light LINK that uses Waze data to better time the lights. They just entered into agreements Boston, Vancouver, Quebec City for free assistance in timing their red lights.

Always skeptical of tech companies, I asked a non-google AI to look at the agreements:

No hardware, software licenses, sensors, or ongoing subscription fees from Google are required. Recommendations are based on aggregated Google Maps driving data and implemented through the city’s own signal system.

If you baws had to drive 45 miles just to reach a stop light every day like I do then you would have different opinions of BR.
