I learned the legend of Bob Breck via my wife. She grew up on Northshore and her family wasn’t going to leave for Katrina until Breck got on the TV and told them “get the hell out of here”

That's why it was once "global warming" and is now "climate change" as things got cooler in places and it didn't fit the narrative.

Let's not forget in the 70s and 80s the fear porn was Global Cooling, the coming ice age.

We've gone from global cooling to global warming and because they need the sheep to graze along they have moved to the nebulous climate change
All of about 40 years.

And these morons lap it up. The recency bias is outstanding.

Anybody want to chime in on the satellite? It’s getting closer to land and still doesn’t look great. Any chance it doesn’t get its act together in time and then shear rips it apart.

A few years ago when Hurricane Sally was in the gulf, we expected it to cause rough weather and power outages in Baton Rouge, so we drove to our condo at Orange Beach. The eye of the storm ended up almost dead center over Orange Beach. It was a Cat 2 and wasn’t too big of a deal other than it hit at night, so you couldn’t tell what was going on. We never felt any danger, the main loss was rentals being suspended for a few weeks Some of the buildings were less fortunate and had major roof damage. I think the ones across from Walmart in Orange Beach got the worst from it. The Phoenix’s did okay.

That’s a crazy take.

My insurance agency (small) handled 700 claims and paid out over $13mil.

A quick google search shows $2-$3bil in damages.

Slow moving ol' lazy wollering drag-arse of a storm. Overachiever, though.

My Mom has a house in Perdido Key and Sally was really bad there mainly due to the flooding/storm surge. It also being covid and building supplies were so scarce sucked as well. Her house was unlivable for several months.

If the current cone holds, we may be getting the outer bands on the strong side in BHM at close to TS Saturday morning.

Fun!

so the question is, was Bob just wrong about a tracking possibility of the storm that he had different thoughts of what would happened and turned out incorrect or was bob fear mongering merely for the sake of clicks and attention.

What are the good hurricane live feed sites around the redneck riviera? Got one with the Flora Bama in frame?

In the sense that it was never frightening. I expected a lot worse being right on the beach. For a while at night the howling of the wind was super loud. It stopped as soon as I noticed the patio sliding door was slightly opened and I closed it. We were fortunate from a damage perspective in our building.

The latest track has the storm as a depression just over 100 miles NNW of Bryant Denny stadium at the very time of kickoff (everyone knows 6:30 pm ABC kickoffs start at about 7:00 pm). The storm will have just pushed thru Tuscaloosa at the very best case with it getting hit on the dirty eastern side of the storm but at the worst case on what’s left of the center of circulation (won’t call it an eyewall as it’ll be deteriorated at that point). There will be damage left in its wake on its “passing” just hours before scheduled kickoff. Then locals need to be concerned about feeder bands spinning up even after it’s pushed north of the city. With Tuscaloosa being on the SE side of a storm that will very well still have bands that are drawing tropical moisture out of Gulf, that could set up to be a disaster if no changes are made to current game schedule.

Been trying to tell the Gumps this for days. They will not hear any of it. They act like this is a summer shower sprinkling Tuscaloosa..
