I wonder what made it change to more inland areas getting the TS Watch?
Posted on 10/8/26 at 10:36 am to Paul Allen
i guess driving from Northshore to Birmingham Saturday morning may not be a great idea.

Call the Alabama State Police. They will know about roads during storms.

My thought is the extratropical transition is gonna spread the winds out.

Because the storm is moving closer toward inland areas…

It's supposed to go up that way Saturday morning. They're not playing this game Saturday night.
This thing will be in Lexington, Kentucky when Bama kicks off.

MasterAbe1 - if you are still here...
The NHC/NWS experts increased the tornado threat to 'orange' - potential for several tornadoes - and expanded it to the east side of Tallahassee.
Again, as I suggested before, if your friends that are expecting don't feel safe, they should just go ahead and leave.
The temperatures are not real hot anymore, but if they somehow lose power and don't have a generator, a pregnant woman would be very uncomfortable.
Good luck to them and I hope they are safe.

Probably the fact a Tropical Storm would be moving inland

As far as Montgomery (which is not that far from Tuscaloosa), they got 90 mph winds, massive power outages, and tornadoes.
They had a high gust of 90, the sustained winds were 47 mph. Your statement is quite misleading

Good chance of tropical storm force wind gusts well inland.

Thank you for that NEZ, seriously. My buddy is Air Force over there so not sure if he is able to leave or not, trying to convince them to leave tonight and come stay at my place for a few days.
If it was just him and her, I think they’d be fine. With his wife being pregnant, that’s a huge concern to me

Wondering when Commissar Sankey is going to channel whatever the powers that be in Birmingham tell him to decide about the game?

Forward speed and strength.

It is going to be moving pretty fast and all it takes is a 40mph wind to be tropical storm force.

The latest track has the storm as a depression just over 100 miles NNW of Bryant Denny stadium at the very time of kickoff (everyone knows 6:30 pm ABC kickoffs start at about 7:00 pm). The storm will have just pushed thru Tuscaloosa at the very best case with it getting hit on the dirty eastern side of the storm but at the worst case on what’s left of the center of circulation (won’t call it an eyewall as it’ll be deteriorated at that point). There will be damage left in its wake on its “passing” just hours before scheduled kickoff. Then locals need to be concerned about feeder bands spinning up even after it’s pushed north of the city. With Tuscaloosa being on the SE side of a storm that will very well still have bands that are drawing tropical moisture out of Gulf, that could set up to be a disaster if no changes are made to current game schedule.

Wrong. As least as currently forecast by the NHC, the center will still be in the state of Alabama. Per NHC’s coordinates, Colbert County, AL.

You sure about that? Track graphic above shows it approaching Kentucky Sunday.

Did I miss Stone Cold? I thought that was for a hurricane warning.
