Well, I've been trying to get in for multiple cycles now, so it's difficult. I didn't expect it to be as difficult as it has turned out to be. Me being the son of a physician may have helped get an interview at my father's alma mater, but it didn't have the pull to get me over the hump. My GPA is close to 4.0. It's the MCAT that's average and holding me back, but I will try until I cannot anymore. Maybe, eventually, my older age will make me diverse enough for acceptance 
I think I will be fine once I get in; it's getting in that's the hardest part for many people, including me.

Are you limiting yourself to specific medical schools that are on the upper end?
You know you are a doctor whether you graduate from Johns Hopkins or LSU Shreveport.

Applied to 14 schools both years; only invited to interview at LSU NO each time. Shreveport won't look at me for whatever reason, even though my MCAT is in their range.

My dentist lives the life. He's open three and half days a week and has OT8's that work for him. He travels the world scuba diving and doing underwater photography.

At least in Louisiana, grow up in a family of physicians. Get pretty good grades and a decent MCAT....and you're in. Then the rest is up to you.....make it to graduation and then thanks to all of the hard work of the medical societies to keep the number of students low, you are guaranteed a nice six figured salary.

Problem is there’s a fixed number of residency spots. People that went to respected med schools will get dibs on those.
Residency spots are funded by Medicare which is broke. It’s the true bottle neck.

I got in with a 28 which was average for LSU at that time, maybe even a point lower, but I had a good GPA. Requirements for minorities (except Asians) are lower than for white students.

Crazy4lsu how far into your training are you? Have you picked a specialty? I had no idea you were in the medical field.

It’s about 7 hours but with this covid stuff they reduced the test length and test time down to 5.5 hours
