My girl graduated from LSU with a 3.8 majoring in Biology and minoring in English. Worked in a lab at Pennington for 3 years, volunteered for Girls on the Run for the same and did hospice for a year and got accepted into what she thought was a "reach" for her at Tulane.

Tell your girl the only difference between the green and LSU is that Tulane’s tuition is double.

I wanted to go to med school to find a doctor wife .
Also I would not go to the people I went to hs with. They're training to be doctors

You do realize if the top 75 or so candidates from most medical schools wanted to be teeth doctors or dog doctors instead of RDs their matriculating classes would look wildly different. Same for PT school, pharmacy school...
Not implying that those students are not smart but if I wanted a spot in one of those schools I would 100% have a spot.

As for why the Ph.D., I wanted to be a medical scientist, but I don't know anymore. Maybe because I'm an overachieving dumbass. It probably helped me get into school, though.

Have you considered doing a grad program?. LSU Nola loves kids who do Tulane grad and LSU Shreveport trips over itself to snatch up kids who take Gross anatomy at Mississippi College.

It is tough...son got in and full scholarship ....
Grades , mcat, extracurricular activities and personality all count... he had friends with higher gpa and mcat but did not get in ....
The extra activities focused on medical and human kindness help a LOT.. Working at disability camps for children etc...
Have friends that kids did not get in right out of college...they went and worked in the medical field as a scribe in the er room etc....Showed serious interest in medical profession. That worked and they eventually got in. Once in they do not want to wash you out of their program because looks bad....but they will....first two years academic focus and tough...last two more hands on.
degree matters for preparation of mcat material... but actually not critical....as long as you are able to study for the mcat material some how....actually music major are suppose to do extremely well...something about how they see things ,and think things through in their minds...
Good luck...have a fall back plan like a Chemical engineer degree and take mcat also....had co workers do this...started in oil and after a few years went to medical school.

You don't have to be perfect on paper. Far from it actually. Someone really only needs at least a 3.6 science gpa and a decent MCAT to get a couple of interviews after applying to enough places. Getting an interview means the school thinks that you are more or less capable of handling the academic rigors of medical school. After that, it comes down to having something that sets you apart from the rest. It can be having professional experience in other fields, being bilingual or even just having really good people skills and charming the interviewers.
From what I know about you volod posting on here. That fact that you have an engineering background is your biggest advantage. Also being black will help a ton (love or hate race based admission standards doesn't matter, it's the reality). However Southern doesn't have the best reputation for academics so taking the pre-req science courses at LSU or somewhere else would be wise.
If its what you really want, I say talk to an admission director at any school and ask their advice. The nicer ones will go over your cv/resume and tell you what other things you need to do increase your chances be it research, volunteer etc.

The stuff you listed is just to get into medical school. Never mind the next 8-12 years of training.
