Personally, I think as the ship was in its final moments of sinking and Jack and Rose were clinging to the rail, Jack's short life flashed before his eyes and he reevaluated his possible future. In other words, he didn't want to be on that door. He realized if he survived, he would be stuck with a high-maintenance bitch, so he figured it would be better to die.

Rose is the biggest piece of trash character in movie history. Hogs the door in the water and let's Jack dies, and yet later when she's old and obviously has Alzheimer's, she throws the diamond in the ocean, screwing her family for generations when she could have had tons of money for it, all because of some smelly, hobo kid she fricked for 48 hours and that was it. She is literally the fricking worst.
