I think of it i this way, she was on a life boat and was going to survive and jumped off to run to Jack. That shite really fricked him because by himself he was going to figure out a way to survive. Dude was a gamer but having to also take care of her dumb arse was too much to overcome.
Then Bill Paxton spends a ton of money to bring her on his ship and all she does is waste their day with a story that doesn’t help them, chuck the diamond they were looking for into the middle of the ocean, and then dies on their boat which I’m sure they loved having to deal with that

Throwing the diamond in the ocean after making her granddaughter and Bill Paxton listen to her ridiculously long self-indulgent story was unforgivable. “Yeah I’m on my death bed I guess I can toss this priceless jewel into the ocean. frick my family and this guy who’s spent his whole life looking for the jewel.”
